Hi,
I recently bought a 2001 2.7i 4x4 double cab. It has a branch and freeflow exhaust fitted. Other than that the engine is standard according to the previous owner.
It idles as about 600-700 rpm which looks a bit low to me? It also has a slightly "lumpy" idle, almost like it has a performance cam in.
What should the normal idling speed for this bakkie be? And do they usually have a lumpy idle? If not, what can I check or adjust?

Re: Hilux 2.7i idle
There is a idle screw on the part where you accelerator cable fit to. You can adjust that. Will need a 8mm spanner and small allen key. 800 to 900 rpm normal. Mine also have a bit of a rough but so little that you must listen very closely to hear it. Rough idle can be many things, start with the cheapest first and work to the expensive stuff; Plugs, air filter, clean airflow sensor, plug leads, coils, injectors, valves....
Maybe if you increase idle speed rough idle will go away.

Re: Hilux 2.7i idle

Re: Hilux 2.7i idle
Hound Dog also suffered from rough idling and would stall if the a/c was switched on. Garage could not seem to fix it. I have two 2700 Hiluxes, I eventually parked them side by side and compared the rubber hoses. that very same hose was missing entirely on Hound Dog and another rubber hose was incorrectly fitted between two other points.! Found a piece of rubber hosing, fitted it according to the other Hilux, re-routed the incorrect one and all was good afterwards.
