Pyrometer
Evening all.
I was thinking of fitting a pyrometer (EGT meter) on my lux to monitor the gas temps.
My question is where to source a gauge. I've been to autostle and they only have one sort of gauge available and it's not what I'm looking for.
Has anyone fitted theses gauges and can recommend a good well priced gauge.

Re: Pyrometer
Hi there Ryan.I have also considered installing a gauge to my vehicle and have shopped around and found out that I can obtain an electronic thermometer and sensor ,which will be installed on the turbo for about R2000.I have also noted that an engine management system which indicates egt temp, water temp, oil pressure and other obtions etc, is available on the market by the name of MADDOG.I have heard good things about this system and I m also considering this obtion.I see it adverstized in one of the local offroad magazines.Happy hunting and keep the forum informed of your observations and experiences regarding this topic.

Re: Pyrometer
Maddogs have rabies but MadMan has an engine management system.

Re: Pyrometer
Apologies for calling the system MADDOG instead of MADMAN. I knew there was something mad about the product.

Re: Pyrometer
I have one - will have to check the brand - only gripe is the excessive BLEEEEEEPPPPPP each time you start the vehicle.
Fitting it is also a bit of a discussion point ....
Mine was fitted AFTER the turbo. Common consensus is that it should be fitted between the top and the turbo. The danger with this is that metal filings from the drilling could stuff up the turbo .... some installers let the vehicle idle while drilling and tapping to blow out any filings.
even fitted after the turbo you quickly see the normal operating temeperature range and can easily adjust the alarm accordingly.

Re: Pyrometer
@ Chris, the difference by fitting pre compared to post turbo is about 100deg C less on the post side.

Re: Pyrometer
I had the TurboLogix installed on previous KZ and was very happy with it. Had a website and ordered from there, but doesn't seem to be up anymore.

Re: Pyrometer

Re: Pyrometer
does fitting these affect the vehicle warranty? Some of them need to be fitted between existing pipes, so one has to cut and fit.

Re: Pyrometer
YES, it certainly could be used to void a warantee.
Same as fitting a second fuel filter ....
Strange how going above and beyond to protect your vehicle can be used to void a warantee ....
In fact bad fitment could result in filings going into the turbo and damaging the turbo !!
Fitment by a reputable company such a Dynotech in Brackenfell is certainly the way to go !!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT - why do want to fit this to a vehicle that is under warantee ? NEw vehicles come standard with EGT systems that put the vehicle into limp mode if needed.
You only need this when you chip your vehicle ... which WILL void the warantee (if the dealers see that you fitted a chip)
