Hello all
I have a 2007 Prado 120 and am suffering a little with the fuel consumption.
So have read on the forums that a de-cat and free flow exhaust followed by a dyno is the way to go.
I want to go to Dastek for the dyno but not sure about the de-cat and exhaust.
Anyone have good experience with this please for a little advise?
Many thanks

Re: Where can I de-cat my Prado
I took mine to the exhaust place next to 4x4 Megaworld in Menlyn - forget now the name of the place.
There are 4 cats (assuming it's the 4.0L V6), the top two either side get cleaned out and the bottom two cut out and straight pipe fitted.
Very important is that they fit the mini cats into the straight pipe that replaced the bottom cats - if you don't the engine light will keep coming on.
You will also get a kinda resonance from the cleaned out cats that sounds like there is a hole or gasket not sealing in the exhaust.
Personally there seemed to be a very slight increase in power, I haven't experienced any improvement in consumption.

Sorry yes should of mentioned that at the outset, 4L V6.
I'm very happy with the sound as it is now, does the resonance make it a lot louder than currently?
Thanks for the advice.

Re: Where can I de-cat my Prado
So I have done the de-cat on my Prado now.
Decided to go to Viper Performance Exhausts in Kempton after reading on the forum a bit.
They new exactly what I was talking about and how to do it.
All the mini cats installed and it is great; no unexpected lights on the dash. And the price wasn't too bad either.
Will take it on the long road only after the snorkel, chip and dyno are done in March/April.
It's far away but what can do. A long trip will be good to test all the adjustments.
They were efficient and service was as promised - good.

Nick.
What did it do to your sound, is it louder? Can you feel any difference in performance?
If I can ask, what did it cost?

Re: Where can I de-cat my Prado
Hello Stefan
If anything it is only 5% louder at most, sounds slightly more refined IMHO.
And yes I can feel a difference in the performance, but as they said it does depend on how you drive.
I'm not particularly a robot racer, but yes I can feel a difference.
Also the cost came in just over R7000 which I thought was reasonable based on pricing around as well as what I sow on this forum and their product knowledge.
So far I can tell it has been money well spent so far.
