Central Kalahari road condition

Post by Shumba138 »

Hi there,

Friends of mine are going to Central Kalahari in 3 weeks driving from Rakops to Sunday, Piper etc then exiting south at Khutse via Xade.
Do you know of the road condition? Is there any mud along the way? Is a seed net necessary?
Thanks!

Stephanie

Seed net for sure in Bots - no matter what the season.

There have been late rains in northern Bots so would expect that central may have had the same.
Crooza VX 80 efi - fully locked.

Lots of rain and mud at the moment. In three weeks time could be better. Look at Botswana section of 4x4Community for up to date information.
The word Dzombo is derived from the Tsonga word Dzombolo meaning ‘to wait for something that is slow in coming.

That mud in Central is very heavy going, the type that sucks your vehicle in. Hope it is drier when they get there. Was very dry when we were there last year but could see some bad sections were others had got seriously stuck when it was wet.... Yes seed nets are a very good idea.. lots of long grass and seeds... Take lots of extra water, and fuel.
