Sediment

Post by Irishman »

I removed my one gasifier because a wire had come loose S.S. doesn't like being soldered!!
The electrolyte had gone down about 25 mm, but a lot of sediment had gathered in the bottom of the jar (this is after 900k's) see pic. I think it was because I used a braided wire. It was a braided wire when I bought it.I think they must use some oil on the wire during the braiding process and this has caused the sediment. The other gasifier were I braided the wire myself doesn't have any sediment at the moment.

Ron, the pic ain't there any more but sediment should be expected (Sodium Oxide) ....white in colour, but if the problem is gone after replacing the wire, maybe it's the wire itself. Some of these electic fence wires have aluminium in them as well and often the SS grade is low. That's why I used the SS core of old wiper blades, usually a high grade SS.
I'm going to take the plunge and fit my unit. Hopefully it works OK.
Andy.
