Hilux Moose Test

Post by Suli »

Howzit Guys

I'm a self confessed Hilux addict and owned most of the range...

I have recently purchased the D4 D Vigo and found the "Moose test" on you tube where the Hilux Fails it.... So now the perfect record hilux's have a smear on it. (check out the video to see what I mean...)

More importantly has the problem been resolved ? as it seems to be quite a dangerous fault ...

and if not how do we repair or rectify the fault ? Is that the reason Toyota has opted to fit 15 inch rims on the vehicle to minimise the effect ???

I still have my 91 Double cab and still use it regularly... Love that one ... toughest one around...

Hiya Suli.. Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy it here and I would like to take the opportunity to answer some of your questions...

Yes we got rid of all the moose(s) in SA.
Suli wrote:I still have my 91 Double cab and still use it regularly... Love that one ... toughest one around...
That's what we used to rid the country of moose(s)..

Should you, however, come across a moose(s) wandering on the road... we just drive right over them..

On a serious note, I don't know it Toyota managed to solve the problem... they muttered something about wrong size rims/tyres etc etc..

The moose test is where they drive a vehicle (in this case a new Hilux) down a road at a certain speed and then suddenly swerve left and right so as to avoid an imaginary moose that wandered on to the roadway. The Hilux almost tipped over when they did it.

This topic was discussed before, and the videoclip was posted at that time. It is on youtube.

Only a Hilux will pass the "Hit the Moose" test, a Land Rover will be totally wrecked. It cant swerve out successfully either since Landy drivers are normally rocked to a state halfway between sleep and awake when trying to drive fast in a Land Rover.

Then both Hilux drivers just gently swerve a little bit, and everything is fine..

That test was made here in Sweden, not proud of it though.
The new defender also tipped over from what I know, but hey, this is real 4x4s, not some ugly and useless volvo xc90.

Here is the article in swedish (the test with the defender was made in germany).

I can now only smile.... The Hilux wanted to tip over but the driver could safe it due to the drive ability of the Hilux. But with the defender...   once it took that second turn..... bye bye
