Gemini Parts and courier services

Post by niclemaitre »

After being very shocked by what Toyota want for a waterpump for my bakkie, I called Gemini Parts to see what they want. At R350, it's really not bad and I decided that I would buy it, only to be told that I have to arrange collection from them by a courier firm as they no longer courier parts (despite it saying that they do on their website). :punch:

I've tried to do this before and it is an absolute pain in the neck to arrange a courier company to collect from a location. You have to register with them which requires various business details, tax details, VAT numbers etc because they are used to dealing with companies and not private individuals. Needless to say, I don't have any of the details they need because I don't have a business.

Because of all the admin it makes Toyota's prices almost seem reasonable. Gemini are shooting themselves in the foot here.

Anyone have any advice for me? Am I missing something?

Cheers
Nic

I once bought from Gemini, I bought a clutch master cylinder for R550, much cheaper than the dealers R1100. But only lasted 2 months. I bought one from Toyota and it is still going strong after a year. I won't buy from Gemini again.

Well they've just lost me as a customer. I called again and was told by the sales agent that he was sorting it out and would be back to me in 20 minutes. Nothing happened. I called again after an hour and was put on hold forever, hung up, called again, hold again, hung up, called again, pleaded not to be put on hold, was put on hold again. Hung up, called again, determined not to be put on hold again and was treated to 5 minutes of listening to the sounds of their call center while no one paid any attention to the fact that there was someone on the other end. Eventually I spoke to the same sales agent again and he said that he had heard nothing further.

Toyota OEM may be more expensive but I don't have to deal with this level of blatant disregard.

Viscous fan by hulle gekoop. Wanneer die Lux in die son gestaan het kom die fan aan en gaan nie weer af nie. Het maar toe by Toy een gekry - R4500 in plaas van net R3000. R1500 in die drein, en hulle sit aan die gatkant van die wêreld:mad:

As a contrast, I recently bought some sale parts from N1 4x4, pm'd them via the forum, same day response to email them. Emailed them, received a quote, queried a couple of things, got a corrected quote and an apology the following day. Paid them, received an sms with the waybill/tracking number, arrived the next day.

Great service. That's what everyone should strive for.

PS Thanks Tarquin, Midas Stellenbosch will have one for me tomorrow, R365.
Happy trails
