Finding the engine number on the Vigo

Post by Trigg's broom »

This is going to attract a tonne of ridicule! Having had a 1988 SFA forever, I have recently added a 2007 DC 4.0l to the fleet and am coming to grips with all of it's "modern" technology. First problem: I can't find the lovely plate that should be riveted to the firewall displaying the VIN, engine number and job number. I found the VIN on the left side of the engine bay at the time of purchase, but none of the other particulars. Where do I find them and does one still need a job number to order parts for the later model Toyotas? Wees genadig manne; ek sit in London en die Vigo sit in Somerset Wes!

Enjin nommer sit aan die regterkant/bestuurderkant net onder die manifold.

n Paar jaar terug toe ek my lesensie moes uitneem wou hulle nie my lesensie uitryk sonder dat die voertuig gaan vir police clearance nie! Klaarblyk was die voertuig te veel of te lank uit die land gewees die vorige jaar. Eeste keer dat ek daarvan gehoor het maar wat help dit om teen die suidooster te poep, moes toe maar die ou vat en n halwe dag afskryf....

even on my 2006, the plate on the firewall is not there & thought something was fishy, till i was told they no longer put the plate  check next to the deep stick, engine # should be there, VIN is visible on chase under the front right wheel arch

Thanks for all the help guys. Can you imagine the shennanigans at the SA-Moz border post if I was unable to verify the engine number on the vehicle? Just the sort of BS the customs officials on both sides love.

Excuse my ignorance Hoppy, but if an owner changes the engine and then sells the vehicle , would that be picked up at the roadworthy test and the particulars changed on the license and registration document?

Nope, The owner who changed the engine should have the new engine registered to that vehicle. If vehicle is sold with new engine wich do not match the registration docs then you won't get it registered on your name easily.

Francisco, I bought the 2007 bakkie second hand from a private seller on a flying visit from London to Cape Town. It looks sound, the seller seemed honest, but I made the cardinal error of not verifying the engine number because I could not find it ( and he had no idea where to look!). I am sure I have not been shafted, but, in retrospect I was taking a bit of a chance.

Mickey, jy is heeltemal reg, dit was die vierde en ook nie die laaste. Dit was die dag toe ek die bakkie gekoop het en ek het baie trots op myself gevoel.

No I have faith in people so also doubt you have to worry but do check it before trying to cross any borders.
