Pose it, then light it, then shoot it.....
I occasionally pick up odd objects when I walk my dogs, with the intention of photographing them. So I had this feather lying in my studio for a while and yesterday was the perfect time to do something with it.
My initial thoughts was that it would look perfect in black and white, but then after editing it, I was'nt sure whether the soft tones where missing from the original shot.
After photographing the poor feather every which way, I thought a bit of additional color might work.... so found some snail eaten violets in my garden to brighten the scene up a bit.....
Hope you all enjoy your day......

Looks great. ..I also want to get into this type of shooting. But decent equipment cost allot (Don't want to buy entry level just to sell it off again 6mnths down the line).
So until then....I will do it the other way around.....Wait for it to pose.....Shoot it.....build a fire then light it....and enjoy!

Danie, I must say that with photography, you never, ever, ever have the 'right gear'. The 'right gear' is a deep dark hole that you throw money into.... There is always a new model camera that can do something more than the last one that you bought 6 months ago. There is always something that comes out that will make your shot "LOOK" better, whether its cameras, lenses, flashes, software for editing, photography books, photography workshops. So you start with the best you can afford and take the photo's..... No different to our passion for Hiluxes..... if you have money you throw it at it....Danman wrote:Looks great. ..I also want to get into this type of shooting. Last trip I took to central Kalahari saw a guy driving the most shot out bakkie I have ever seen, but had a lens hanging out of the window, taking a shot of some cheetah way out of reach of my 400mm lens, and I would have swopped the landcruiser I was in to get "that" shot of the cheetahs with his 800mm lens. Was'nt my cruiser so it was a dealbreaker, but, such is life.....
