D4d Thrust bearing
Hi there,
I just need a quick sanity check, I had my clutch replaced (full kit) through Toyota in September 2012. Then, last week there is a strange sound coming from the engine, whenever I just touch the clutch it goes away.So I stopped at Toyota yesterday, and was told it is the thrust bearing on the clutch that is acting up.
They will replace it under warranty, but I am concerned that it only lasted 6000km's. Should I be? Or is it just a bad part?

Re: D4d Thrust bearing
Doesn't sound right. It would be the pilot bearing if they didn't replace that the previous time

210 000kms, 2nd new clutch in now and both replacement clutches have done that.
It also comes and goes and noise levels of different intensity at different times.
It seems a common problem

I just had mind repaired, but Toyota that I bought the van from did it at their cost, at first thought it is the thrust bearing, but then they opened the box they found the shat had play on, so the whole box got new bearings.

Re: D4d Thrust bearing
sounds like its the sonbesie effect
change clutch kit and it goes away for a few hundred or few thousand kms
mine comes and goes as it pleases
changed clutch 3 times now
just gotta live with it
as soon as u even just rest your foot on the clutch the sound goes away

True, that is it, sonbesie effek, I love it!
Mine also comes and goes, but usually it was only for a short while, it's been constant for 4 days now. Irritating to say the least, and I do not even want to open my window (I like boere-aircon!). Anyway, Toyota will replace it under warranty, so I have it booked for Tuesday next week.

Re: D4d Thrust bearing
As long as Toyota fixes it when it happens concurrently, I am happy with it.

Re: D4d Thrust bearing
From my understanding it requires some grease at strategic places and a replacement of the pilot bearing, then that sonbesie sound will disappear.
