Funny, there's always a little SVM around when I get stuck. He did it EASY with a snatch strap 8)

:o I thought you were only supposed to use a snatch strap with two similar size vehicles, that definitely isn't the case here.

Tristan, a snatchstrap works better than a winch if there is no anchor point for the recovery vehicle :!: I have seen that many times. That little SVM must be about 800kg? Whereas the Cruiser tips the scale at 2000+ kg's and still it pulled me out first attempt even pulling on a incline.

It is generally not a good idea to use a bigger vehicle to snatch but smaller is not that serious.

I would actually go as far as saying that you should rather use a snatch strap when recovering a heavier vehicle than your own. I don't really understand where peoples fear of snatch strap come from. Yes, they can snap but so can a pull strap. And if you follow all the safety precautions as one is supposed to, there is absolutely no reason not to use the snatch. If a vehicle is seriously bogged down... there is no other thing I will use than a snatch... makes it very easy and there is much less strain on the vehicle. m2cw

A snatch strap has a certain lifespan, and usually you use it up helping someone else.

Yes, but thats where the snag comes in. If you dont own a snatch strap, and you are in trouble you can BUY mine, before I use it to snatch you out. Finish en klaar... That is the rule of recovery equipment. :evil:

Unless it's a brand new Snatch rope in a sealed bag, how would one tell the difference between a snatch strap and an ordinary strap? Bennie, the one I gave you, was it a snatch strap or a normal one?

Eric... All decent straps (pull/snatch) has a label stitched into one of the loops stating whether it's a pull or snatch strap. If in doubt, treat all straps as pull straps.

Eric, the other difference is that a good snatch strap (the only kind to use) is thicker/longer than a pull strap, and has a breaking strength of much more than just 2 tons. Breaking strength is stitched in on a lable as well. And yes Cassie is right, unless you are sure, treat it as a pull strap only. And get everybody to stand well clear..

As long as you always attach it to a tow ball, any sort of strap will work...

Does anybody have a "R&D Offroad" Snatch strap.I got one,but it does not say anything only the name.It is quite long and wide.It looks quite strong.

What colour is the snatch strap George?

Bennie is referring to a strap, similar in appearance to the one you have, that I gave him earlier this year. It used to be a nice clean strap but Bulldog had to recover so many Datsuns spewing filthy oil & grease everywhere, that I decided he should rather keep it for rescuing these guys again in the future.

I bought that strap also at 4x4MW.

George. A quick test you could do is tie one end to a tree and the other to you bakkie. Pull away very slowly with about 20cm slack in the strap. You will definitely know the difference.

You know when you always drive a manual vehicle and then suddenly have to drive an automatic. That first stop you depress the 'clutch' as usual and find yourself sitting close to the dashboard as it was that huge break pedal you stepped on. Well, if it's a pull strap, you will experience a very similar feeling. If it's a snatch strap, it will not feel harsh at all. m2cw

Okay. Tie it to a Landy or Datsun. If the part of the Landy / Datsun come flying through the air as if shot out of a sling shot...you've got a snatch strap :)
