Extra Cab or Dcab
I currently have a 2012 Extra Cab 3.0 with 16 000km on the clock. 4b2.
With no stock at the moment, Toyota are giving me a trade in price on I cant leave on it.
So now it is time for a 4b4 3.0 Manual.
So hence my question between X cab or Dcab.
It is only the wife and I, no kids so far.
What is the pro's and cons between the two models going offroad?
Or any other advice that would help me choose will be appreciated

Only choice is lifestyle and if you can claim VAT back?

If you're planning kids in the near future I'd say a D/C. Even if not in the not so near future with the D/C you always have packing space on the rear seat for the madam. Also depends on what you intend to do with it - overlanding or daily runner/4x4 on weekends. I find the D/C much more versatile in most cases.

Re: Extra Cab or Dcab
I am Vat Registered yes.
This will only be a weekend 4b4, no heavy stuff over the borders etc.
I have a single cab Lumina 6.0 Im using during the week.
On weekends there are always family etc who wants to come with us, so far we managed with 4 people in the Extra cab, but it is a bit tight then
Eish, decisions decisions

Sounds to me you're leaning towards a D/C

Klink of daar moontlik dalk pienkvoette in die toekoms gaan wees? Kry dan maar die 4 sitplek! En jy het mos 'n S/cab vir laai werk?

passangers = double cab
VAT = Clubcab ....
if the VAT is not the deciding factor go for the double cab .....
only "downside" with a double cab is those that also jump in when you want to go away ....

I agree with Donkey. I had to upgrade my S/C to D/C for more people-space.Donkey wrote:If you're planning kids in the near future I'd say a D/C. Re: Extra Cab or Dcab
I've also got my very own little SARS VAT nr, and claimed nicely when I bought my KZ sc in 2005. Six months later my wife was pregnant...
Now I'm regestering for Turnover Tax - so sc vs dc no longer issue, and with the tax money I'm saving can consider an older dc for recreation... Oh no, wait, cannot, cause wife's pregnant again, so there goes the budget!
Maybe if my wife breastfeeds for the next 4 years the saving on Purity can go towards car payment....

I feel a lot less wise at 45 than I did at 15.

Re: Extra Cab or Dcab
The FORD clubcab might be an option -
VAT back
You CAN order it with the extra seats and safety belts, PERFECT for kids, and SMALL adults ....
but then you have to face your friends in a FORD ...... just loose the VAT and buy a HILUX double cab ...

I had a 97 Tacoma extra cab..it was great when my two girls were small. it was upgraded to a 2005 Tacoma Double cab when I remarried and picked up one more child.
I am not totally familar with the Toyota Models available in Sout Africa but I would recommend the DC.
the disadvantages of the DC are the smaller bed/payload capacity, If you are eventually planning on kids and will keep the truck for a long time the DC is a great truck to have around.

Re: Extra Cab or Dcab
My kids are all older and have their own vehicles, I had considered changing to a SC for the extra load space, but when my wife and I go on our long tips to Namibia, even short weekends away, we use the back seat to put our clothing bags, small cooler box behind the seat and medical bag and camera bag close by. It is more convenient to just lean back to get most of our things we use all the time while on the road, and another plus is that it is all in the cool a/c of the cab.I find it more comfortable to have the roomier feeling of the back window way back as apposed to so near the back of my seat.
And then there is the added plus of taking extra people out when back home.
Its a personal choice , MTCW.
All the best with your descision.

I had a 2010 Fortuner. When I sold it, the plastic from the factory was still on the rear seat floor.
Nobody ever sat there. Now that I have the Xcab, everyone wants to ride with

Cater for yourself & not for everyone else. What you win on the roundabout you lose on the swings. Either you have enough passenger space & not enough packing space or there is packing space & no passenger space. Do you want to cater for yourself or for family? If you only have a S/C then no one can ask to go with you...They get their own vehicle or stay at home.

Re: Extra Cab or Dcab
The thing about a double cab is that you can either load people in the back or you can take the backseat out and put fridge and equipment you don't want in the loadbin in there. I take my backseat out and have my fridge and camera bags in the back, less chance of dust getting to them, and when I am in a game park where I can't leave the vehicle my camera,s and fridge are handy. Also if I have to sleep in my vehicle due to unwanted animals in a campsite at night I can drop the backseat and I have a bed, not very uncomfortable but it lies flat... and the lions can go and find something else for dinner that night.. hee hee.. M2cw..
