yep its happening again!!

a few years ago, used a site called "Putfile"
it was great, and user friendly
that site closed

in the mean time opened a photobucket acc, however find that site, Not user friendly

so opened "webshots"
very user friendly, and great at posting the same photo is different sizes for different forums
very user friendly

however they are about to close!!

why host somewhere else??
can link the pic to any site or forum by just posting a link, and had no issues of resizing of pics

so does any one have any good ideas of know of any sites that they can recommend

will appreciate all advice :cooldude:

and for all the pics that I have posted linked to that page, they will stop displaying where I have posted them!! sorry about that one!! :surrender:

if it works well, will then change my sig and post my new link

still leaning that site, lets see how this works
looks like also easy to use different sizes to post on forums

Image

one of the reasons why choosing fliker is that its part of yahoo, and a better chance of it being around for a while and not loosing all my pics again

with the above link with the IMG on the ends, keep getting "Your images may only be up to 800 pixels wide."

anyone know how to resize from photobucket, with out having to resize on my laptop every time and reloading before posting!!

Fernando, permissible image sizes on forums are controlled with settings .... in our case we make use of a lot of images which means bulk and additional storage space required on the host servers, so the size is perhaps less than allowed on some other forums.

I've always as a matter of course just resized before uploading to photobucket but if I'm not mistaken they have a resizing tool .... think I saw something like that there.

understand what you are saying, however was not trying to upload a pic onto this forum/site, just added a link using IMG/
however it detects the size and restricts the displaying of that pic
in other words it dosent use up extra space, as the image is stored where ever its been uploaded (in this case photobucket) and when needed the browser get the image from the link posted ""

as for resizing the pics before uploading, have thousands of pics, sadly my use of uploaded pics from webshots.com is no more, so need to start again, and to resize all those pics to get my albums, looks like tooo loooooooooooooong a process to do it for every pic!!

let me rephrase, the issues is not the direct uploading onto the forum, however rather the display of pics hosted else where, like from other photo hosting sites such as photobucket!!
so if a plan could be made, would be much a preciated
and yep its just a setting!!

Download Gimp, you can do batch re-sizing with it.

Now I'm not sure if there is a separate setting for hosted pics and uploaded pics in the forum, software, that's something that either Pieter or Cassie can clarify or comment on.

While it's true that remotely hosted pics may have no effect on the forum servers IRO database size or bandwidth, the individual user that views posts with bulky pics is the one that uses more bandwidth and will experience a slower loading of such pages. Not sure how significant that will be in the greater scheme of things, but again, Pieter / Cassie could advise.

Andy, any pics hosted elsewhere like Photobucket for e.g. will have no effect on the forum's servers. But as you say, large pics could slow down each individual's loading of the particular page being downloaded.
