Luxter is sorted, it pulls ok for a diesel, JP's 22R makes 170kw and 440nm, not bad for an old 2.4 petrol!

I understand that the Rovers did very well yesterday. I thinnk that Dino may have come first on the day....if so, Congratulations Dino, well done. I also believe that it was an awesome. Oh we had lots of fun!

Yes it is true, the Blue Ford dropped a CV on the first obstacle, and in 2x4 got halfway thru the 2nd one! No excuses, we expected that from a Ford didnt we? But we'll be back next year to try again. That didnt put us off so we changed vehicles and drivers and took on the rest of the obstacles in Stubsie's Bouncy-Bouncy Foryota. It was an experience and a half, and Stu, I'll be your wingman any day!!

The Landies did steal the show, but we got 3 of our own Hilux4x4 guys in the top 20, with JP and his turbo-powered methanol bomb taking top honours for our group. Roche and Oom Leon also ended in the top 20. Did I miss anybody else? Congrats guys, you did well!!

Roche (bebe) needs a special mention, as he managed to make the top 20 in his 2.8 Diesel LWB S/C Hilux. Why is this such a special achievement? Because the 2.8 Hilux is really not suited for the type of conditions we were facing on the day. It is low revving and slow out of the blocks, meaning that it was very difficult to build up any kind of momentum so much needed in the dunes! Also bear in mind that there were probably 98 vehicles entered that were better suited for the conditions on the day!! Well done Roche!

I think anybody who was there and didnt have a good time was brain dead!! This was heaps of fun, and we should do it every year!!

A great fun day like Thys said, without the stresses of a serious challenge event! Sadly, two of our biggest supporters, GI Jane and Petou, were out of town so we didn't do so well on the points.
The KZTE motor realy proved itself when i improved the best time of the day record on the R&D obstacle held by a supercharged Jeep by two seconds, with JP and Uncle Lion tying only 3 seconds behind in third place. We,ve got some nice video clips of those runs, will try to link it somehow.
I wish i had a good sound recorder, there were some serious burbling V8's, JP's 170kw 440nm 22R snorting turbo, the best sounding 110 Landrover ever, sporting a howling 2.5 straight 6 1jz twin turbo toyota celica motor, Gysie's limiting 4.0 V6 and my poor old diesel could only imitate a giant vacuum cleaner!

what a day, our team number was 72 and that is probably less than the amount of flags I actually took out during the course of the day, but plenty of fun, especially when I nearly took out to old toppies sat at the top of a dune on one of the tasks, !!!! wasnt my fault that I came out of the tracks !!!! LOL...

there were some seriously rigged vehicles which made my truck look like a tonka toy !! oh and the sounds of V8's.....but to compete with the guys from the Friday Avie club is something else, those guys know how to drive the sand but as Hoppy says some our guys did very well driving pretty much stock standard vehicles with no diff locks !!!!!

Defo gonna be there again next year !!!!

Sideshafts is the weakest link, popped a few myself, think those took alot of hammering in the past.

Sorry for under-estimating your truck Stu, :wink2: , your lux proved to be more reliable and more capable, we had wide eyed spectators and a wide eyed co-driver well driven.

haha, yeah I have never seen an old toppie move out of his camp chair so fast !!!! as for my driving...mmnnnn... still alot to learn in the events, but thanks for all the advice on the day, I did get better as the day went on.....but I think was probably in the bottom 5 of the whole event....but was heaps of fun and we had a great group also !!!!

Would love to... but then we have to join the Fri arvie club, so we get tons of practice in the dunes, and then exchange my 22R for a lexus v8... or better still go for the day with my awesome Hilux as it is, and they way I love it, and just enjoy the fun.... like all of you did...

You dont have to join the FAC to get tons of dunes experience. Look at Roche, second time there and he kicked sand in the eyes of some big manne... with a diesel (54Kw) !! Fun is what it is all about.. not who wins and who loses..

I think we did ok, Allan whoopped ass in his diesel so you dont have to have the big V8's...also oom Leon in his 4y......if you check the picture of the Prado I loaded !! I checked inside this vehicle, and it looked like it had NOS fitted and was kitted out as though it was off to the vietnam war !!! there was one task where the fastest time was set by a supercharged V8 Jeep, however didnt last long as Allan beat it !!

I certainly learnt alot from the day and will approach it differently next year, less haste and more control, slow into the corners and fast exit (thanks allan) that tip improved my driving ten fold but still a long way to go.....

but it was a great group of Hiluxers.......

You need to:
1) Not be invited to a wedding
2) Not be out of town
3) Have a sense of humour
4) Have some fuel in your tank
5) Want to have fun
6) Have a hat and some sunglasses
7) Enter the event well in advance

Thats about all you need... You dont need licences, certificates, retina scans or full body cavity searches...
