Chip Feedback

Post by george »

Some feedback after I installed a Dastek chip in my 2.7.
I took a 250km drive around Barberton yesterday and all i can say is WOW what a difference.
I now have some decent low down torque. What a pleasure driving the bakkie. Over the last few weeks I forgot I had a fifth, but now I can use it again. I am very impressed with the SAC guys from Nelspruit. The owner understood about tuning for low down torque. Like Willem use to say its not about the chip but all about the tuner.I had an excellent tuner. I am pretty sure my fuel consumption will increase but will wait and see. I just hope I didnt compromise my reliability.
Here is the dyno again.

Hi George

I need to do something to my 2.7i. If you don't mind me asking, what did the setup set you back.

Hi Tony. I paid R3000 for the chip and dyno. I already had the free flow exhaust

Excuse my ignorance but when you have a car tuned can you ask the tuner to tune for torque, power, economy etc?

Carl, yes, to an extent. Correct tuning will always give the best torque, that's a given. Most tuners then do split for power and economy. When the acc. is depress up to 60%, it's usually tuned for economy, the other 40% acc. travel is then tuned for max power. Most of the new gen chips can also detect fast or light acc. depression, which allows the chip to respond and adjust the fuelling and timing for power or economy.

Out of interest, how do they detect accelerator postition and speed of depression on cars with cable throttles?

The throttle body has a TPS or throttle position sensor connected to the butterfly flap which gives the throttle position info to the ECU. The Unichip can switch to a different map under full throttle with more aggresive timing and fueling.

On MAP(manifold air pressure) based EFi systems, the rate of change of MAP is used to detect aggresive throttle position changes.

I also had the Dastek chip fitted but also decided to do the "stage 1" conversion at SAC Nelspruit. This included the airbox and air filter modification together with Wildcat branches and free-flow exhaust. Attached is the Dyno graphy of before and after. It is a totally deifferent vehicle after I had this done and tows my caravan and boat much, much easier. The fuel efficiency improvement is amazing as well.

It was definitely worth the money spent and I would recommend it for anyone with the same motor

Hi George.Apparently if you have a snorkel than the mod is not necessary.
Funny enough am I am going to bypass my chip tonight. I am in Tanzania now and the fuel is really bad  I have started to develop a puff off black smoke and a backfire :slap: It is not the chips fault but maybe the original map can deal better with the bad fuel.I actually wanted to post another topic on the symptoms of bad fuel
