Front diff is an import diff. Rear diff is either import or local, but both have the same ratio (4.875). If the rear diff has a removable rear cover, it's local. If the cover is welded in place it's import. The import diff is removed in it's entirety (one assembly) from the prop-shaft side and is known as a 'third member'. Rear and front third members are interchangeable .... they are exactly the same.

Benefits of the import is that they are more robust IRO crown & pinion and have 30 splines on the half-shafts as opposed to 27 on the local Gearmax diff. Also, a third member can be set up on the bench (backlash / pre-load) which is much easier than setting it up in-situ.

;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
