Advice on the purchase of a 4.0 V6 auto?

Post by ROOKIE »

Hello all.

Excuse what may be a question answered a thousand times, (the search is not my friend)

What, if anything, should I look for when checking a second hand 4.0 v6 Auto 4x4 for a possible purchase?

My intended use for it is as an over landing vehicle. I have already sold my previous 4x4 and for some reason have it in my head that a 4.0 Hilux is the way to go.

I am not worried about the fuel consumption. My previous vehicle was much heavier than the 14 -15 l/100 l the Hilux reportedly consumes and this vehicle will be my weekend/ over landing vehicle.

Any input gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Hi Paul, and welcome here

The 4.0 V6 is an awsome vehicle, with few problems, the only issue commonly reported here is the famous 'surge' problem. This is caused by the long range tank filings / dirt, clogging up the fuel filter in the primary tank.

Other than that not much!

Drive it like you stole it

I've had one for 2 and half years. Will not trade Forest for anything. Fullstop.

He likes juice kwaai- if I'm lucky, I get 7 km/l- I'm not complaining, just saying- if you buy it, don't complain later.

It's a truely, awesome, awesome vehicle. m2cw. Like Mark said: RY hom!!!

Only problem I ever heard of on it, was the "surge problem" easily solved (in my case)

It is a very nice bakkie for overlanding.
It is very comfortable on the open road, and very nice offroad and on sand.
taking all of the above into account, 15.5l/100Km is not too much of a sacrafice

Hi All.

Thanks for the feedback. The last few days have been busy, trying to find a good 4.0 v6. Productivity at work is not good.

So far I have 2 on my short list, both 2009 vehicles, and both silver. So much for me getting a white hilux.

Thanks again again all.

The 4.0 V6 and Auto box are a match made in heaven!!! It pulls like a bloody steamtrain. Yes, it is a tad thirsty (no more than my 2.7 Hilux though), but the grin-factor it offers is priceless.

Proven engine that has been around for a while.

Hello all.

Thanks for the feedback. I found a Silver 2009 V6 auto that should be delivered to me about the Middle of October. Apparently, the hold up is with the canopy and getting it colour matched. Bucco must be very busy.

Oh well, worth the wait I supppose.

Thanks again for the feedback

Why not just go for an alu canopy first time? (and it's silver... :mocking: )

Post us some pics once you've got her and welcome to the forum.Like Mark says if you are going to use it for overlanding an ali canopy would be the better choice,i'm still kicking myself for not going that way first.
