17 Sept'11 Buffalo Gorge

Post by Traveler »

This one serves bit as a reunion for 13Aug AAWDC event. We will join East Rand Toyota at Buffalo Gorge for the weekend.

Camping is available, and Jaco will post us the rates for the catered and un-catered camping rates. ERT does the catering, and there will be new Toyota owners in this group together with ERT. The catering is offered as many of these new owners have not camped yet, and are still to head on the trail of purchasing their camping equipment. This will be a good opportunity to introduce them to the Hilux4x4 group and club. We will likely walk away from the weekend with more new friends.

We will depart from ERT in Boksburg on Friday 16 September and drive the Buffalo Gorge route on Saterday 17 September; the campers will leave after breakfast on Sunday morning.

Quads is also allowed on this route. :boredom:

For more info on the route: http://www.hhashi.co.za/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Het so bietjie gekyk na die akkomodasie...gaan almal dieselfde ding doen of besluit elke ou maar waar hy slaap (eie tent , 16 man tent ens)?

Each can decide on his own accommodation, but we can certainly all camp next to each other. Remember please we are going as Hilux4x4 and joining with ERT on this particular GTG. It is an opportunity to grow the Hilux family even more.

The very nice thing about Buffalo Gorge is that you can make use of their camping equipment if you do not have. So if you want to join you can use a Buffalo Gorge Tent; contact me or Jaco for details or book your own tent with Buffalo Gorge. You also have the option of using the catering and services offered by ERT, the costs in the attachment for that below.

Then the rates:
Camping: R75 per person per night (minimum 2 nights)
R25 per child (3-10) per night

Firewood R250 for a bakkieload, R30 for a wheelbarrow load
Eskom Power R45 per day

4x4 Safari & Bobejaanloop R200 per vehicle - once off payment

Horseriding R200 per person

Below is the option where ERT caters for you.

As jy beskikbaar is gee my lui dan praat ons groete][/quote]

Hi Guys

Unfortunately I haven't had time to go through to have a look at the place at all. I have received a DVD from the owner which I'll be watching tonight. He has also assured me that all the facilities are neat and tidy.... I'll try to get out there, but it's not going to be easy since I have to work on Saturdays as well.

I have decided to make the whole weekend a self-catering affair. I haven't had a overwhelming response from customers, so it will be mostly Hilux members if we do decide to go there. I'll let you know what I see from the DVD...

Hi Ouens

Jammer ek vat so lank.... Besig by die werk.

Hi Jaco
Ons het verlede naweek opleiding aangebied by Ribbokkloof

We went to Buffalo Gorge last weekend (3/9/2011). This is not a 3 to 5 star place but in saying that it was also not bad. The toilets were flushing and clean. The showers were hot as long as you kept the donkey going and clean. It was not full. We were provided with more wood than a bakkie load at a cost of R250.00. The fire place was already set up when we arrived and only required us to light it. Yes it is rough but no more than any site you would choose when over landing and had to pitch camp off the main road. There is a type of a "Bush Kitchen" available there but I did not check it out. (sorry). As a summary of the camp site we had two friends with normal tents and two with RTT. No one complained about the facilities. The site we were on was more or less level with grass cover. All the sites have grass cover. One must bear in mind that this is the highveld and everything is brown and shades of brown.

As far as the "trail' is concerned there is a trail that you can do as well as an "obstacle" course where you can cross the same river about 15 times. All the crossings are different. I did the pole crossing (no brainer) and two others. One of which I did with no problems and the other which I got stuck in. (I am not the most experienced driver around) and damaged the load bin somehow..just scratched the paint a bit. My personal opinion about the crossings is that no one with a normal unmodified 4x4 will attempt them as they will damage something.

The trail on the other hand is very mild. There is no wild life to see (not like De Wild). If it had been raining I am sure you would be treated to some very muddy patched. One can stop and brunch at two or three different places along the trail. There is two or more nice look out points.

Hope this helps you make your decision and also keep in mind that it is still very cool in the evening.

I will post some picks after this. Feel free to ask any questions.

It must be about 15km long and it would take about 3hours to complete it. Longer if you take it slow and get out at the look out point.
