I know I know I know... it is a Mitsubishi event, BUT, for the same money to participate you get the opportunity to drive a Mitsubishi (Pajero, Triton) until the wheels fall off. Plus while you take part in the competition, you also get assessed, and if found competent in terms of the Unit Standards, you get issued with a 4x4 & Off-road Driver competency certificate from TETA. 2 Flies with One Shot Dead Geshoot Fountain.

The African Off-Road Academy team from Cape Town is going up to Nelspruit to participate in this event. We want to get some more Capeys involved if possible, and we can share fuel costs to drive up. So far Stuart Bull is very keen to attend, and I need to twist Coenie's arm a little more...

Here is the latest news from the organisers of this event.

We have a few oukies representing Hilux4x4 as well.

Team 1 Cassie (Caskru) and Coenie (KingRat)
Team 2 Mark (Gunta) and Dirk Theron
Team TopGun Stuart Fly-Boy Bull (Stubbsie) and Myself

Anybody else wanting to join is welcome. it is going to be a lot offun,as you can see from the details below.

Good morning to all potential Trail Masters

It is time.......

The first group elimination round is around the corner and we trust that you are looking forward to the challenge as much as what we do!

In order to assist you in planning and preparing for the challenge, we have decided to forward you the following information as well as the format of the competition.

1. GENERAL INFORMATION

- Please note that due to various request not to share rooms we have decided to change the type of accommodation to tented accommodation with each member having his/her own tent. Each tent will have a single bed (sorry for husband and wife teams, we can move the beds) but you need to bring your own bedding. The tent camp also creates a much better atmosphere and fits better to the nature of the competition being an off road and outdoor challenge!
- Though there will be electricity, you will have to bring a lamp for inside the tent.
- We will provide plastic chairs for sitting around the campfire etc. but it will be much more comfortable for yourself to bring a camping chair.
- A cash bar will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own drinks and beverages.
- You are also welcome to bring your own snacks for during the day.
- All meals will be provided i.e. 2x dinners, 2x breakfasts and a lunch
- The arrival time is 13:30 on day one. Do not arrive prior to 13:30, as the gates will still be locked by then
- The group elimination rounds ends on day three at +/- 11:00
- For those still wondering, yes you will have to stay over as some of the challenges includes night driving etc.
-The venue is Bee Eaters Farm, Nelspruit. (GPS: S25º26'483" E031º00'451")
- Please remember to bring the following:
v Personal Medication
v Clothes (you are welcome to name your team and wear identical shirts)
v Warm jacket
v Peaceful sleep
v Toiletries
v Old shoes

2. ENTRY FEE
We are glad to say that we were through sponsors etc. in a position to reduce the entry fee to R2500 per team. Please ensure that the full amount is paid prior to your group elimination round and fax or mail us proof of payment. You are welcome to contact me to make arrangements for payment on arrival.

3. PERSONAL INFORMATION
Please bring along a copy of your ID and Drivers licence.

Also note that there will be golf shirts available at a cost of R85 a shirt. Note however that should you wish to purchase one of this shirts, kindly contact Johan at 082 411 7132 on or before the 16th May 2011 to order your shirt.

4. THE CHALLENGE
Now for the fun part, the challenge! We want to crown the ultimate Trail Master.

If you want to wear the title of Trail Master 2011, you will have to complete the following stages in the elimination rounds first, and then move on to the finals in July:
Stage 1 - Mystery stage on arrival - So you think you can drive and know what K53 is all about?
Stage 2 - Defensive Driving - tar road and gravel road conditions
Stage 3 - Navigation (off road maps, topographic maps and GPS)
Stage 4 - Skid control
Stage 5 - Off road driving
Stage 6 - Emergency conditions (off road cooking, bush mechanics, survival tecniques, equipment recovery, etc)
Stage 7 - Tyre change
Stage 8 - Knowledge (environment, vehicle range, controls, critical specifications etc.)
Stage 9 - Final countdown (formal assessment and practical driving skills).

Note that this is a guideline and that more information will be given to you on arrival. Though it might seem difficult, remember it is a challenge but you will still experience the ultimate thrill. We are going to have a lot of fun!!!!!! Say no more.

Well, I trust that this information will help you in your mental and physical preparation for the challenge of all challenges...

Kind Regards
Johan Grobler

Coenie was al hier, hy kan nie wag nie, en Stubbsie en Dirk speel lekker darts in Gordonsbaai, so hulle ry more agter in die bak. Ek sal maar vir Klipwerf hard moet speel vir die babelaskoppe...

I don't recall receiving a call about this, and I was on the highway at that time too, so you probably passed within 20 metres of me.
