Aircon pump bearings needs replacement ASAP, any advice(22R)

Post by naasburger »

After all the rain we went driving through a few rivers, and after my Hilux have been standing for a week, I noticed the small adjuster pully made a terrible noise. I replaced that pully and the noise was gone.

Now after another week, the Aircon pump is making a funny noise, it used to make a noise only when the aircon was in use, so knew the bearings inside was going, but now its making a noise when the aircon is not in use as well.

I want to sort it out, but someone told me its not a job I can do myself, aircon people need to do it. Does anybody know of some place in the east rand that will do good job at a reasonable price, or can it be done myself?

I'll just take it for regass afterwards.

Bly by die standaard boks.

Hi, Naas

I have used Harrack Auto Air in Selby, Jhb a few times and have to say I was very happy with their work and price. They fixed my Jeep for R 1 200.00 when the stealers quoted me R 8 000.00!

Thanx Johan for the info, I will give them a call tomorrow to get a quote. I can just imagine what the steelers will ask me!

I replaced the pully bearing on my 22R myself.

From what I remember:

1) Remove the v belt.
2) Unloosen the mounting bolts - just to get enough movement on the pump to work with.
3) If I recall, there is a bolt and a circlip holding the pully on.
4) Remove the pully and take it to a bearing supply.
5) Match up bearing, and buy - R55 about 4 years ago.
6) Take to your local "service / garage / engineer man" with a press.
7) Press out old bearing, press in new. Cost zero.
8) Assemble.

Sounds good, thats what I thought I would do as well.

I took it in this morning and it seems its only the pulley bearings making the noise. Isnt it a story to strip the clutch mechanism that ingages and disingages the clutch when switching it on and off inside the car?

I far as I can remember, it was a straight forward job. Not more than a half hour on both sides of coming off and then back on. One or two nuts, a curclip and voila.

The clutch mechanism I think is actually a elecro magnetic system, and does not hamper the removal of the pully in the least.

Give it a bash...... worst case scenario, you tighten the bolt back up and take it to the workshop.......

You'll be surprised how "cheap" R850 bucks can be if you have a 10mm, 13mm, 17mm & 19mm socket, coupled with a curclip pliers.......

Hi,

Groete
