Looking for working window winder mechnism for my front two windows in the 89 dc hilux?

Most of the larger spares places will carry these... like Gemini... I think they are the same as the taxi ones... but you must check why the old ones gave up, usually the window seals(bottom and around the sides) are to blame... they get really dirty/worn on the inside and tend to make the window jam, of course you need my force to open/close the window... eventually this kills the winder mech... original Toyota replacement seals are hideously expensive... but you can DIY these from generic seals available at Rubber/Plastics retailers, this is what I did: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=8803&p=94598

It may be the window seals, as the winder winds down and i have to push the window down or pull it up again.. the mechanism just feels very loose in the hand

What you describe, sounds to me like the rails/sliders have come/rusted loose from the glass.

This would cause exactly what you are describing, they are as standard just placed in the rail with sika flex/silicone and thats why the winder feels so loose/free to move now that they've come free.

I would suggest opening the door panel and checking before buying anything, it could just be the above and then all it takes is a tube of Sika and your time.

So your saying that the glass may have come loose in the slide that it rests in....


WIll definitely check that out... So then just lift the glass up and smeer some silicon in the rail and slide the glass down and let it set?

You've got it!

I would suggest using Sika Flex as normal silicone dont hold for long ask me I know cause I tried and now have to do it again.

Take the door panel off,

Wind the mechanism down till you can see the slider, it bolts on with 2 bolts to the glass "holder"

If it has come loose on the glass, clean it up and put in the sika flex

Push the window down gently into it making sure it seats correctly,

wind the window up/closed put a small amount of pressure to ensure its seated and leave for 24hrs

This should do it.

LAst night I wrestled with it

The window is seated firmly in the bracket... The winding mechanism seems to be loose...

The whole thing completely conked out on me last night with the window down... I took the winding mechnism out (Well i could not undo the slider thing at the bottom) but i fiddled as best i could and it just started working better than before. I suspect that it was not sitting probable on the door, thus winding scew and causing strain on the mechanism.

I tightened everything proper and WD 40 everything.. seems good!

I did mess up my central locking in the process.... are those little pump servo things pretty standard to replace?

Any alarm place will be able to supply you with a central locking servo...they're quite cheap... Replaced all four of mine a while ago.. with fitting.. R550...
