Lexus V8 Conversion - 4X4 Capabilities

Post by robvan87 »

Hi there

Can someone please explain to me the pros and cons of the Lexus V8 Conversion, I am currently in a bad place---my g@t juk so n bietjie---. But I dont want to do something that is going to affect me too much. How does this engine handle steep inclines where you dont need too much power etc.. Does it generate wheelspin easilly. What is the fuel consumption one could expect from this Engine.....

Regards

Robert

I assume you still have the original 2.2 petrol motor (4Y). From what I've picked up in previous posts you should get more or less the same fuel consumption if you drive very conservatively, but we all know that's impossible since you'd be wanting to hear that growl all the time. driving with a moderatly heavy foot will apparently give you a little more than half the 4Y's economy. Some things are worth the extra cost though .... depends on the individual.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

My limited experience with mine: AWESOME!!! It idles up anything in low range and if you need the power and revs, it'll spin all the way to about 8000rpm.

Fuel consumption is the killer, though. You WILL use the power and then you can expect about 4 -5 km/l. I have no idea what you can expect if you drive like you still have a 4Y.

Will I do it again? ABSOLUTELY!

my g@t juk so n bietjie

Ek dink baie van ons lei aan daai siekte.

Seems to me fuel consumption is all about how you drive. I heard quotes from 4 or 5 to even 9 km/l.

I have seen a SFA with Lexus motor in action at Atlantis dunes and you just cannot compare it with a normal Hilux. Where we have to gain momentum and use our best driving skills that thing just glide up the dunes as if it is driving in a a parking lot.

Thanks for all the replies and the insight in this matter, It is really appreciated. But I think I will stick to the OLD 4Y, She aint giving me problems, at all... And there is a good afrikaans saying "Moenie slapende Honde wakker maak nie". So when the Ol 4Y fires for the last time and gives up all hope on life, The V8 would be considered.

Thought about doing that a month or three ago, but if I am going to spend that amount of money I would rather make worth the while and give it some power. But I am not losing any sleep over the decision.....

Robert, I'm in Nelspruit too. One of my buddies drives a SFA with a lexus and it's awesome. He goes with it where the cruisers with lockers battles to go. Fuel consumption at 120km/h is 9km/l. 4x4ing it will go down to 5km/l.
