2.2l vs 2.4l
2.2l vs 2.4l
Any thoughts on the "best" engine ito performance (power-to-weight ratio) and fuel-economy?
I "picked up" from Forum discussions that the 2.4l might be thirsty?
I've just started on the learning curve and would appreciate any advice

Yet it's still pretty thirsty... 4Y is just slightly lighter on fuel... but not much! The 3RZ, 22R and humble 4Y are all excellent motors!Buff wrote:2.7i uber alles

Thanx, I "observed" a 2000/2001 2,7l 4x4 D/C being offered for sale at Rk84, just over 300k kms
Still in good condition
Better buy than a SFA? Or to be considered on individual merits?
Had a 1985 SFA which I had converted into Ford's 3,0l V6 and really enjoyed it although thirsty as well

I agree the 22R is definatally a stronger more modern engine but part availability is a in the greater scheme of things the 4Y is definitely the better choice to have in the long runCasKru wrote:I think the 22R was most definitely an improvement on the 4Y

Will still go the 2.7 route if your budget alows it, second best will be the 4y.

What sort of budget are you looking at converting a SFA to 2,7; if I understood you correctly?
How easily does one find a good 2nd-hand 2,7 engine?
Is it worth it or even necessary to convert an SFA with less than 200k km and the engine still running OK?

2.4 definately more power and if set and tuned properly gives about the sam consumption as a 2.2 in my opinion.
