Extended warrenties?

Post by Buff »

Morning Guys,

Could anyone suggest a reputable firm to use for taking out an extended warrenty on a 4x4?
I've found 2 on the internet, Warrenty Solutions and SA Warrenties but the feedback I've seen on Hellopeter is not promising.
Sounds like the majority of these firms are a bunch of loan sharks who'll smoke you at every opportunity.

Thanks

so how does extended warrenties work?
is it like insurance for mechanical failure?
even if you buy vehicle privately, it can still be insured?

Correct, most vehicles under 3000kg can be placed on them but your coverage depends on the age and km's on your vehicle eg.
Plan A - Vehicles than 5yr and 100 000km - Engine coverage R18 000
Plan B - Vehicles than 7yr and 160 000km - Engine coverage R8 000
Plan C - Vehicles than 10yr and over 200 000km - Engine coverage R4 000

The catch is normally in the fine print though, clauses like "proven wear and tear" not paid etc. I mean, which 2nd hand vehicle doesn't have wear & tear?

Thats true and everything can basically be explained by wear and tear!

My brother just had a 6 grand suspension job done on his Ford Ranger and his warrenty covered it all!

My plan is B i think but covers engine up to 12 grand along with lots of other stuff.

Will tell you in 2 years if it was worth it!

Hi, hasd one on my old car, does not cover anything except major failure of engine/gearbox, and limited to a vcertain amount.
things not covered are, everything attached the the motor. Even water pump is like 50%, the rest they say is wear and tear.
If you blow head gasket, this is not covered.

Hi all

I had a MOTOCARE warranty on my previous Jeep and can only speak highly of them. They did all they could when something failed (which happened regularly!) and they were quick to send an assessor, and give go-ahead without any quibble. They also paid out as much as they could for every claim I had! Can realy reccomend them!

Ok so its back in for diff loc and yay they have found the problem.

Apparently the wire was damaged and as such caused the motor inside the diff loc to be permanently on. It thus burnt out and so need a new one.

Total bill so far R8500-00 EISH

The SA warrenties guy coming to inspect on tuesday and then they will decide whether to pay or not.If they dont im screwed so this is the test!

Ill let you know on tuesday

Luke,

I'm holding thumbs for you. All bloodsuckers are the same. Them fineprint gets you everytime
My wife's friend car had motorplan, and it got stuck along the side of the road. She tried to start it again, then called in the tow company.
Because she tried to start it again, they would not pay out....
I would have taken this to the constitutional court, but they just left it and fix the damage themselves. :wth:

If you have the right vehicle you dont need warrenties ! It looks like you have the right bakkie.

One of my favourite checks before I interact with a little known company(sometimes even a well known one), is to look them up on HelloPeter.co.za, firstly are there many complaints against the company, does the company respond to client complaints, are the clients happy with the responses/reasons given(highlighted as a bad-to-good service conversion)... go take a look at SA Warranties performance at HelloPeter:

http://www.hellopeter.com/SA+Warranties ... mpliments/

Of course, the vast majority of people only post a report when theres a problem, but it's interesting to read a few and see what people are complaining about, which often highlights that so called 'fine-print'!

I could have saved myself 12K by checking this site, before paying a deposit to a shady builder 2 years ago!
