Re: Broken Forum
Riaan I know Pieter just did a software upgrade. Maybe you come in while something was busy being set up.

Re: Broken Forum
Maybe someone edited a style sheet(css) and set 'text-align: center'. Or the element attribute for the cell data(td) is set to 'align=center'. Should be easy to fix!

Re: Broken Forum
It only seems to be affecting IE, I've tested on Firefox 3 and Google Chrome and they render the alignment left, as usual IE seems to be doing it's own thing! Does the forum software use different stylesheets for each browser??(not likely!)...

Re: Broken Forum
On further investigation, this forum software uses a seperate css file for IE7, hence why the issue only affects IE7:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="./styles/serenetblue/theme/stylesheet.css" type="text/css" />
<!--[if IE 7]>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./styles/serenetblue/theme/ie7.css" />
<![endif]-->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="./styles/serenetblue/theme/stylesheet.css" type="text/css" />
<!--[if IE 7]>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./styles/serenetblue/theme/ie7.css" />
<![endif]-->

Re: Broken Forum
Mine does the same, only I'll have to live with it this way as work wont allow any other browser to be installed.

Re: Broken Forum
I asked the creator of the Serenity style for help and am waiting for his reply.
Why don't you download and install a proper browser in the mean time, you can get it at
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
Bretton I checked the ie7.css Stylesheet but all it says is:
and nothing more.

Re: Broken Forum
Hey, hey! Nothing wrong with IE7, it's just the whole world wide web that's not compatible with it!
Ok so the IE7 stylesheet allows for IE7 specific corrections
Pieter as an interim fix you can add the following css code to the IE7.css file:
/* CSS for IE 7 */
.row1{
text-align: left;
}
The above is a class declaration for .row1 style setting the text alignment left.
I have tested it offline and it fixes the issue, once you have the corrected css file, then you can just delete it!

Hi Bretton, I added the line to the style sheet but it is still the same.

Ek het nou alles in die style sheet wat lees text-align: center;

Re: Broken Forum
Sorry guys, I have sent the final fixed versions to Pieter, I goofed up. The file I sent Pieter contains the old and new fix, so you wouldn't see any difference. When the updated files(latest ones) are uploaded, the signatures in the left column will be center aligned, and the post body text left aligned(as it should be...)...

Re: Broken Forum
My experience has always been that 3G is fine for normal web browsing, but as soon as you want to do more it has issues, like poor FTP perform and high latency on the upload side. The 3G network is specifically optimised for normal HTTP connections and anything else receives a much lower priority on the network.
The other thing I've noted is that the 3G based station(cellphone towers) have limited capacity, so as more people use 3G in a specific area, so the service levels seem to detoriate. We used to run our business comms over a 3G connection, but because of these issues we switched to ADSL, and are much happier now!

Re: Broken Forum
Hi Bretton, Vodacom already put me on the InternetVPN in order to try and make it better but still it is a nightmare. Luckily my 2 year contract ended in Dec last year and if Telkom can get their act together I will have an ADSL line again real soon.
My advice to other will be: If you are just browsing the internet now and then, 3G will work for you. But if you are trying to work stay away from it.

Re: Broken Forum
Hi Niel,
I'm in South Africa...
Ok, ok, Morgenster, Brackenfell. I build AJAX WEB 2 applications for a living, and a stable internet connection is a prerequisite. Our office 3G connection was poor, even after the Vodacom technicians visited us to remedy the problem, the issues continued, extremely high latency(500ms+, as high as 5secs at times) and data packet dropping(up to 40%).
With our ADSL at the office now, I get an average latency of 15ms and 0% packet loss.
I believe our problems were based on cell base station bandwidth limitations.

My Vodacom 3G sucks in any place in SA I tried using it. At home in the north of Pretoria, in Centurion at the office and all over gauteng at customers' sites. I also had issues using it when I was in CTN, Jeffereysbay, at Klersdorp while visiting Eric.
Cant remember the no as it is one of those Huawei USB modems with a dedicated SIM that the work pays for so I never use the no only the pin.

Re: Broken Forum
Lightning tonked my ADSL modem last night within five minutes of me switching the PC on
Got a new Netgear ADSL modem today, even managed to set it up myself and using Opera during my tests, this forum has never been so fast for me before as it is now. Takes less than a second to open pages.
Niel, I also have one of those 3G Huawei modems, but only use it when I go away on annual leave. As I remember last October, my browsing was quick and I could download quickly, but was unable to upload any graphic content to the forum.

Re: Broken Forum
No, it's not just you .... the pages are wider now due to the two new links that were added on either side of the banner ad ('Join the Hilux Club' and 'riends of Barking Mad').
I wonder if Cassie can re-position them a little .....

Back to the topic - broken forum ...
some pages are "too wide" and i need to scroll right to read the whole post. Page 1 and 2 of this thread has this problem, but on page three the thread fits in the width of of screen.
I have this problem both at home and at work, both IE.

Re: Broken Forum
This is not the case Andy. The links added above will not influence the page width as it is self adjusting to the width of your screen.Mud Dog wrote:No, it's not just you .... the pages are wider now due to the two new links that were added on either side of the banner ad ('Join the Hilux Club' and 'riends of Barking Mad').

I do have a suspicion on what is actually causing the problem
Chris you stated that pages 1 and 2 ons this thread you have to scroll to the right. If I am correct in my suspicion in what is causing this page 3 is now also doing this. Am I correct?ChrisF wrote:Back to the topic - broken forum ...

Re: Broken Forum
No problem here, using Firefox.
The following works with FF, not sure about other browsers:
1. Hold down the <Ctrl> key.
2. Thne rotate the Mouse wheel (between the two levers) and you should be able to adjust the size of the view on your screen accordingly.
I never had to do that, the forum width never changed for me at all.

Re: Broken Forum
Page 3 as well Cassie. I have it on every page, even now on the 'Post a reply' page .... the text box extends off the page, but as I type it scrolls to the right when the text reaches the end of the screen.
