3rz engine swap to kzte
I have a 1999 3rz hilux 4x4 I was wondering I will be needing to rebuild the engine. but it got me thinking how difficult is it to put the kzte in place of the 2.7 what needs doing and so on or do I stick to the 2.7

High-mileage as in how many kms? Those engines are virtually bullet-proof. I personally would repair the engine if it is really necessary, fitting a diesel will be expensive and you would probably need to change the diff ratios for best performance. Not to mention registration papers and licences, which will also require to be amended.

Re: 3rz engine swap to kzte
the engine has 500000km on the clock not been open I did a compression test as she is heavy on fuel and it was just above 600kpa I know it will need rings as well as has a slight knock on one of the bearings.

You sure about that consumption, it sounds excessively high? My 4Y gets about 12L/100Km and my boets V8 cruizer gets about 16L/100Km

Re: 3rz engine swap to kzte
Ok, I guess it must be so. Are you sure you don't have any leaks? On my SFA, I had a split in the filler pipe, so some fuel escaped through there, though it was generally when the tank was quite full. My 74 LR FC with a straight 6 used to get around 20L/100Km in town.

Re: 3rz engine swap to kzte
Sorry, I don't know anything about the 2.7 as I have a 4Y. All I can say is that your consumption is way higher than others with the same engine. This is purely my opinion from what I've read on this forum. I keep a spreadsheet of my consumption, and when mine started creeping up over 13L/100Km, I had the carb rebuilt. This didn't help, so I fitted a Golf carb. This brought it down to around 12.5L/100km which wasn't as big a saving as I thought I'd get. Recently I figured out that I have a blown head gasket (between 3 & 4) and had probably been driving like that for a couple of years. Repaired it and immediately got a bit more power and a slightly better consumption. I now get between 12 & 12.5L/100Km.
My suggestion is to take your head off and have a look. Maybe first just go through your fuel system and check for leaks, maybe you're losing fuel on the way to the engine.

Re: 3rz engine swap to kzte
I went through the fuel lines today nothing leaking anywhere.
I am going to replace my maf and in the summer rebuild the whole engine so not going to pull the head just yet but it is a possibility.

Re: 3rz engine swap to kzte
There's a butterfly valve in the intake that clogs up, cleaning it may help. I have the same engine and typically get around 12-13l per 100 km.

Re: 3rz engine swap to kzte
Fitting a Kzte will be expensive!
You will need an engine(R35k+), gearbox(R20k+), diff ratio's(R5k+) then a ecu, wiring, radiator, labour....I can not see that you will get much change for R100k.
You can buy a good imported engine from Engines and More right there in Harties for way cheaper and have it running within a day or 2.

There you go!
I'm sure they can fit it if you so wish?
