Black smoke while accelerating and when changing gears on a toyota fortuner 2007 3l d4r

Post by Glanny »

I have a 3l d4d Toyota fortuner 2007 model, and I am not happy to see black smoke during accelerating and changing gears.
The fortuner does not consume oil, no loss of power, no poor start, no jerks, drives excellent, fuel consumption not bad for a 3L.
So I don't know why it's puffing black smoke.
Please advise.
Thanks

Over fuelling, too much fuel getting injected initially?

is it chipped? or has the ecu been remapped (perhaps by a previous owner)?

black smoke is fuel in a diesel.

If its stock, maybe get the injectors cleaned and checked.

Black smoke = over fueling. 3.0 D4D first suspect would be your injectors.

Use some good injector cleaner, that is the cheapest way to start. Sometimes it is just dirty injectors.
Toyota sells rather good ones. Myself use Wurth's Fuel Cure
Make sure your air cleaner is clean.
If, after one tank of Fuel Cure it still smokes you will have to start looking at injectors, etc.
