Front wheel Stud replacement

Post by JulianEvans »

Hi there I have broken one for the six wheel studs on the front right of my 2001 Hilux 2.7l 4x4.

I have the correct stud to replace it with, and plan to do the DIY job with a friend. I've heard it can be quite a process to replace. I want to hear thoughts on if the process of removing the wheel and hub is worth it just for 1 wheel stud? If I don't replace it is it risky to keep driving long distance and 4x4ing with only 5 of the 6 studs?

Thanks

Hi Julian,

AFAIR it is not a nice job. You have to remove the disk and hub to be able to replace a stud. Since it is such a terrible job, is it not worthwhile to replace all 6? Do you know why it broke?

As I remember it is illegal to drive without all the wheel-nuts fastened.

O, and remember to torque the bearing to the correct torque. Same with the wheel-nuts.
