Hilux KZTE popping out of first gear
My Hilux KZTE diesel (2001), when pulling off 1st gear pops out ? Toyota tells me that they need to strip the gear box before they can tell me whats wrong. Has anyone experienced this issue before and what might be the cause?

Re: Hilux KZTE popping out of first gear
Hi and welcome Dean.
I don't think that this is a common problem but If I recall correctly, someone here on the forum had a similar problem not too long ago. I don't know if it was resolved and how, but you could do a search using key words like "Jump out of gear" and see what comes up.
Best of luck getting to the cause of the problem.

Re: Hilux KZTE popping out of first gear
My KZ box is doing the same. The gearbox workshops also say they must strip it and see. I learned to just hold the lever with my hand for now, do not have time to fix now.

Re: Hilux KZTE popping out of first gear
Hey guys
Thanks for the response. Yip I had a look through the forums, with out much success, but will give it another go. Another Hilux owner has suggested a mechanic (by the name of Gawie Rossouw) in Pretoria north who specializes in 4x4 Toyota repairs. So I'll be giving him a call to see what he can do. Maybe take this opportunity to service the gear box as well.
@piet yeah thats what I've been doing .

Hi Dean
Can you forward me the contact details of Gawie. Always looking for good mechanics with experience on the 4x4's. it's difficult to find honest, reliable mechanics.

To recon the bearings on the R151F boxes is around R6k at Ultimate 4x4. Maybe change the clutch kit while the box is out?

Advies ook hier asb. -
Ek moet dit so week kansgee.
Klink nie vir my reg nie - eerstens daar is nou groter/meer probleme as voordat KZ ingegaan het;

Re: Hilux KZTE popping out of first gear
Verkeerde olie kan dit doen. Raak dit beter wanneer hy warm is?

Re: Hilux KZTE popping out of first gear

Re: Hilux KZTE popping out of first gear
So I just wantt to give some feedback. I found a gearbox repair place in Strydom park randburg.
https://www.google.co.za/maps/place/QnA ... authuser=0
Apparently this is a know issue for the gear box and there is a kit that resolves the issue. I had it fitted and been driving for a few months with out any problems.

Same here, Mayfair Gearbox in Brackenfell rebuilt my KZ box and the problem has also been solved. Is a pleasure to drive it now.
