Good morning all
I've got a Hilux Surf (1992) fitted with a 1987 Celica 7MGE N/A. I am looking to get rid of the ECU and installing a Dicktator. After reading through this forum on Dicktators, I still have a few questions;
1. Can I buy directly from dicktator.co.za (Benoni?)
2. How is the matter of the ICV solved as the 7MGE has the 6-wire stepper motor?
3. Can I take the AFM out as mine is shot to sh*t?
4. How does the injector impedance influence the Dicktator ECU?
5. Do I only buy the standard ECU, or do I need other units as well (I've got a single Toyota coil & ignitor with distributor)?
6. What sort of fuel consumption can one expect with the Dicktator? I'm more worried about fuel consumption than power...
BACKGROUND
I've run into quite a few problems with the ecu and wiring harness, e.g. the injector wires shorted out, causing the injector drivers in the ECU to pop.
As I've bought his vehicle with 2 engines, 2 harnesses (only 1 ECU though), I took out the harness completely to make sure there are no other surprises. The injectors that was in the vehicle was high impedance. The other harness was for the low impedance injector and therefore had the required resistor.
At this time, I had already had the LI injectors cleaned and balanced, and as this wiring was without fault, I replaced the shorted (HI) injector wiring with this set (including the resistor).
The ECU want a speed sensor input, which I cannot give it.
The AFM is definitely faulty, therefore I want to install a engine management system that don't use this ridiculously expensive part.
The TPS gives on only one ohm reading a slightly lower Ohm reading than what the manual says it should, but this could be adjustment related. And I'm hoping this won't have an effect on the Dicktator (your input please gentleman?).
It is currently blowing tons of BLACK smoke out the back. It is definitely over fueling and the AFM is the only thing that seems to make a difference on this matter.
Any suggestions and comments will be highly appreciated.

Re: Dicktator for 7MGE?
1. You should be able to buy direct
2. Not sure on this
3. You will need an AFM or a TPS on the throttle body - some setups can use both.
4. Impedance should be able to be set on the ECU (don't know too much about the Diktator)
5. You would have to check with Diktator themselves if no-one has the answer here
6. The performance parameters have to be set up in the mapping (done on a dyno) so everything is dependant on the tuner person.
Personally I prefer Spitronics over Diktator because ....
• It's a much more robust unit, can withstand more heat and won't pop as easily
• it has many more tuning parameters and can be more finely tuned
• the after sales service from Spitronics is great and they will even help trouble shoot .... will also tell you what to do with your 6 wire stepper as well as what to do or how to configure the high impedance injectors.
You will have to fit a rev sensor of some sort either way ... can be off the crank or dizzy, but you probably already have one somewhere if you have already been running an ECU .... could be on the dizzy or if factory fitted will normally be on the bell housing using the flywheel.
Here I have to admit that I'm not overly knowledgeable in the engine management area. Best is to get it to someone who does this kind of thing all the time and knows exactly what is required and what works best and then of course can set it up on a dyno for you. (I can give you a great referral in E.L but then you would have to get the vehicle here).

Re: Dicktator for 7MGE?
Hi Mud Dog. Thanks for the reply.
I've just spoken to Justin at Dicktator Specialists m(can't get through to Dicktator itself).
He reckons they bypass all the sensors (except the water temp.) as well as the ICSV.
He says they set the base idling with the set screw and therefore no need for the ISCV.
The same with the AFM.
Apparently the injector impedance won't make a difference as their ECU can handle it.
Does this sound right to you guys?
Thanks again

OK, also spoke to Adriaan at Dicktator themselves. He confirms the above said by Justin. All he needs from me is how the dizzy looks like inside.
The will sell directly to me AND do a custom harness for me - I just need to give them a detailed layout of the harness routing with measurements.
So it seems the Dicktator is a go for me!!!
I hope this can help someone else as well...

Good to hear. They will probably give you a start-up map to load but you still gonna have to do a dyno tuning.

Re: Dicktator for 7MGE?
Hi guys
OK, got one quote from Dicktator so far. I've send them photos of my engine layout with measurements, distributor, injector plugs, water temp. sensor plug, etc. so that they can make me a custom plug & play harness.
This is what they came back with;
STD ECU = R 2780.00
TP100 Igniter Module = R525.00
Mag Adapter = R110.00
Custom Harness = R3000.00
Total Incl. VAT = R 6415.00
Even though this really isn't a lot of money for the peace of mind that everything is wired correctly, I was just wondering if anyone on this forum can give me proper wiring diagrams (not the downloads from Dicktator) for the above modules with the standard harness that normally comes with the module?
The reason I ask is that if I can do it myself with the same peace of mind, saving R3000.00 just seems so much sweeter!
I'm no newby when it comes to ecu wiring and diagrams, but Dicktator's wiring diagrams can be confusing.
Any help will be highly appreciated
