How to open the bonnet .
Good day, I need to find out how to open my 2004 Hilux riader 2700i bonnet? I pulled the bonnet lever in the cab and the bonnet did not open. I in spec to see the cable broke out the lever. Why it broke I don't know. How do I open the bonnet now without the cable?

I have no idea, perhaps a visit to the nearest Toyota dealer might help, or if not local, then phone the Service Manager?

Re: How to open the bonnet .
If it broke out of the lever inside the cab, it's easy. Just get in behind the and grab the end of the cable with a pliers and give it a tug.
If it broke off at the bonnet catch itself, it's a bit more tricky. Use a torch or get some light in there so that you can see what's going on at the latch behind the grille. Take some reasonably stiff wire (like baling wire) and bend a small "U" shape like a hook on the end, freed it through the grille from the side that the release cable leads up to the bonnet latch, hook onto the same lever and give it a tug to open it. It might take few tries before you are successful. Replace the cable / lever whichever is damaged.

Re: How to open the bonnet .
Hello Nicolaas.
I had open my bonnet to check how it work and what we can do.
This is how it look like when the bonnet is open, as you can see the spring is not under tension. With the spring out but it is in close position. But here the spring should be under tension. In open position. In front of the grill see where the screwdriver is goes in. On top you can see the screwdriver sticking inside the mechanism. As you can see in picture no 3 where my finger is, probably you can use a strong wire which had a hook on and stick it in as shown in pic no 4, then somehow wiggle it down side wards.
Hopefully it give you a idea what to do.

Hello Dowe Koos
Very helpful indeed!
While your bonnet is opened, I need to rebuild my engine.
Can you provide a step by step explanation with pictures of stripping the engine as well?

Funny.
Hi Ricky. My engine is still in good condition. When I do that, I will let you know. Probably in 10 years time.

Hey buddy, just messing with you.
It’s actually touching to have you assist in this type of way, to go out pop your bonnet, provide a step by step explanation with photos of each explanation.
Well the explanation was not for me, but I felt touched by your assistance. It feels like someone out there really cares, (to go the extra mile).
Unfortunately I don't know how to load photos. Read the explanations on the forum and still cannot. I don't find no "attach box".
Anyways, thanks, keep well.
