Mechanic in Cape Town
Anybody suggestions for a mechanic in Cape Town for SFA. My story.... I wont mention names ..
Yard 1.(renowned in Cape Town)
Request: Rear diff seal(broke subsequently), carb set(consumption skyrocketed up afterwards and discovered was not bolted back on properly?? replaced?), manifold gasket(broke subsequently), temperature heater slide stuck due to seized piston type thing - replaced with cheap VW thing that lay above engine and it eventually broke and I got stuck at a garage and repaired myself<Lucky Midas nearby> ...
Comments: Impossible to get hold of via phone or mail, 2 weeks to do what would normally take 2 days. Friendly but serious lack of service. Shoddy work.
Yard 2. Also well known CT
Request: Service and fix this and fix that. All work done superbly and no come backs. Consumption better than it ever was. No major work done besides prop shaft recon. Reverted to original with temperature heater slide .
Comments: All parts used ORIGINAL TOYOTA!! i.e plugs, filters etc YIKES - if I had known. I was expecting bill of 10. I got a 21K! Cant complain about workmanship but hard to get hold of, impatient and hurried and generally a bit bad mannered(although I think it is a character thing). Shutup and listen attitude. But besides not being able to afford this on an old bakkie(pre 90) - I think I should have been given due warning. I felt it was a - pay - and don't come back - we got bigger clients than you.
Yard 3. Backyard but renowned.
Request: Replace manifold gasket!
the saga ... manifold pitted ... oh ok ... no new one .. go for a branch, more power .. what about losing heater under carb on original.. don't worry I had 2 myself .. ok.
Told something wrong with carb. Car revving mad. Fuel pouring down chute. Oh ok. Strip and refit carb 2 times. Buy carb kit and fit. No difference. Buy new CARB. No diff. Take to carb places - nothing. After two weeks I insist car goes to get original manifold fitted. Ooooops. Just discovered the problem. THE BRANCH DOES NOT SIT FLUSH ON THE ENGINE (and this lead to it sucking fuel - I HAVE TO BELIEVE). Put new S/S exhaust to match branch.
Comments: He is a hell of a nice chap. I actually do believe him. 6,5 K later! I think I am cursed!
This bakkie is clean. No oil leaks. No problems. I wish I had space to do it all myself cause it seems its the only way you get the job done properly and with due cost considerations.

Reviving an old one here, but who are the Toyota guys these days?
Looking for someone to fit PowerBrake and who has done it before.
