3.0 D4D engine into SFA
Hi All,
Has anyone out there put a 3.0D4D motor into a SFA body? I have the 97 2.8D 4x4 DC Raider and although the motor is still 100% (at 400 000km) I can get my hands on a good condition 3.0 D4D motor with ECU and I am very tempted to do this conversion for the obvious extra vooma. If there are any hickups or challenges that I should be aware of, and of course good solid advice.
Looking forward to some good feedback.
Thanks
Sean

Re: 3.0 D4D engine into SFA
If you could mate the D4D engine to your existing drive train I can't see any major issues. I'd check the input shaft of the current drive train to see if a D4D clutch will fit over the splines, and if there is a bellhousing that would fit
If the engine can't be mated to the existing box I think it will take too many mods to get it to work with a D4D box in the SFA, perhaps then a KZ box & txfer case and possibly both diffs would be the easiest route, provided one could mate that to the D4D engine.
So the feasibility will be dependent on what box would work with both the D4D engine and the SFA diff setup i.e txfer case on the same side (ratios are easy enough to adapt).

If you have the ECU and wiring harnass it should be possible.
Think D4D and KZ Blocks are the same so you should be able to fit it to KZ box..... if you can find one.
D4D box has output shafts on the wrong side.

Thanks very much chaps, all makes sense. I will do some investigating. First prize to mate the D4D to the existing drivetrain. I will keep you posted, and if we go ahead, I will post pics and progress reports for all to enjoy.

I want to do the same to my SFA but getting that D4D to purrr is the problem. With the scratching I have done it seems the you need all the electronics to make it run, coded key box, keys, dash, throttle box etc. With just the engine & ECU you will apparently not get it running.
I hope Im wrong on this because its easy to just get an engine & ECU, less easy to get a written of donor vehicle to scavenge all the bits of.
If the clever peoples can jump in and advise, it will be greatly appreciated

Eish no...if that is the case just go buy a complete D4D bakkie
Lexus is then still the best bang for your buck, provided you get the proper radiator, sump, bell housing and the D4D clutch

Dwayne here on the forum has sorted the electronic issues - he makes it run without all the coded keys etc.

Ja jy is reg. Die output shafts verskil omdat die transfer boxes verskil.
