Vigo 4.0 v6 water pump
Hi guys, has anyone replaced the water pump on their v6 and if so where did you get the pump and at what cost?
My radiator has been leaking so I finally got around to replacing it but have found that the water pump also needs replacing.....never ends.
Stealers want around R4000
Gemini system is down so approx price is R2500
Anyobe used a pump from midas or the like?

Would also like to know the answers on your questions Scott...

All I know is..it's a hellavu job, and also some of those pulley nuts is said to be left-handers.

Re: Vigo 4.0 v6 water pump
Let me tell you......
I picked up the pump from honeydew toyota with discount for R3400.
I then installed said pump and all is good.
Its not such a bad job but i used to be a mechanic so whats easy for me might not be for someone else.
The only left hand thread bolt is the tensioner pulley bolt which has to be a lefty so that you can use a spanner or socket to loosen the belt.
All in all i reckon it can be done in an hour or so or maybe 3 for someone with limited knowledge.
No special tools required....i used a 10, 12, 14 spanner or sockets, waterpump pliers and screwdriver.

Re: Vigo 4.0 v6 water pump
Hi Scooter,
What Year model and what mileage does your V6 have?
I've started seeing some dry antifreeze marks on the front of my engine, but I cannot see the leak on the pump itself. The leak also seems very small. Was planning to take it in for a pressure test, don't know if it will show anything, as it did not pick up any leaks on the Pajero I had with a cracked head...
I've watched the temperature closely over the past week (using a Bluetooth scanning tool - Coolant temp is between 85 and 87 degrees) so far all seems normal.
I don't want to spend the time and money if it all was just a case of over filling of the reserve bottle, but I cannot explain why there will be water spots on the motor.
I drive a 2009 model and it is standing on 185 000km
Water marks marked with blue after cleaning the old residue.
These spots now show the dry antifreeze residue after driving around since Saturday when they made their appearance and they don't seem to be growing.

Re: Vigo 4.0 v6 water pump
Mine is a 2005 with 236k on it. My radiator was leaking at the plastic tank joints and as above at the water pump.
I never saw any sign of the pump leaking, only the dry antifreeze on the radiator tank. But while I had the radiator out and the fan off I decided to check under the pump just in case and a good thing I did.
Having done it now, I would suggest that of you are unsure then perhaps a bit of stripping to check under the pump.
You will need to remove the cowl and fan and then slacken the multi belt with the tensioner and remove the water pump pulley. Then you can use your phones front camera to take a look underneath and see for sure if it is leaking or not.
Might seem like a mission but it really is not all that difficult.

Its a small reader that plugs into the obd port under the steering.
You can then use various apps on your phone to display some of the ecu data.
You can also do basic error code scans and resets.
