There's a slight whining noise coming from below especially in 2nd & 3rd gear under a heavy foot.
Upon closer inspection I found that the output seal on the txfer case is leaking and the txfer case needed +-600ml of oil. Gearbox levels still OK. Noise slightly subdued after top up so I guess the problem is there.
Who can I trust to do a proper job? I would like this person to do check the Txfer case, and at the same time check the gearbox and do the necessary IF needed. Also want o replace the clutch & engine crank seal while we're at it.
N1 4x4 reckon they can check it for me; not sure if anyone has experience with their mech services? Any other reputable companies?

Re: Txfer case check
Stefan, this is really not a difficult job at all. The tcase is not nearly as complicated as the gbox. There is nothing to set / adjust in the tcase, and at most probably one of the bearings.
The Gbox, take that to Mayfair gearbox, they are Toyota and Aisin approved. Toyota uses Aisin gearboxes.

I used the Pretoria Branch.

Gearman Tony sal hom mooi kan reg kry en hy is naby jou.
Ek weet net nie of hy die ander vir jou sal doen nie.
Praat miskien met Louis Zanolli?

Re: Txfer case check
Tx, might just do that; if the problem persists I'll take the gbox in for a service, can't imagine it needing a complete overhaul, the LTD only has only done R240k km.Big D wrote:Stefan, this is really not a difficult job at all. Re: Txfer case check
Took it to Mayfair, and got run over with the price
Anyhow, turns out the transfer case was fine apart from the seals. R14k later and the case hardenings were all redone, syncs' done, Txfer case seals, crank seal & pilot bearing. Clutch still Ok at just over 50% wear; just cleaned up
