Have you tested it to see of it shifts the mechanical arm 100%. Might seem like a weird question but AFAIK if it is not 100% and it only partially shifts the mechanical arm (not resting on the preset positions of the box) it could get expensive real quick.

Reinart, have not checked it but that is just a matter of lengthening or shortening the levers so to get the right amount of travel between shifter and gearbox lever. That is not a show stopper at all.

If it does not shift enough then lengthen the lever on the shifter to get more travel.

So I have been told... But the difference from Park to Reverse is a bit further, than from there on down. Just wanting to know if that would be alright. Otherwise there's no problems. The shifter you got from lextreme, did you get it with the bracket or connector to latch/connect to the gearbox mech lever?

The Shifter has the lever end sticking out the bottom. You can then just connect with your own rod to the gearbox lever.

Some more progress

Engine mounts done.
Starter checked, 100% condition, probably only 15% of is life gone

New battery cable attached to starter
Wiring harness removed.
Serious cleaning done.

on the "to do" list.
It's got a little stump dangling near the oil filter at the moment. Cable is in the office, awaiting some decent lugs and a proper crimping tool.
I was also told to run an earth cable from both cylinder heads to the chassis. Even if it's too much I will do. Got the T shirt and worn it out regarding earth cables

Looks great just keep in mind those shackle bushes don't like the heat so much caused by the manifolds . and solder wires as far as you can before using lugs and a crimping tool...

Juan, thanks for the heat tip.

Will make a heat shield once I have my manifold made. Regarding the soldering, I normally do both, Crimp it into the big lugs and then add the solder. I saw the OEM lug that came off the starter was done the same way, crimped and soldered!

Guys, I appreciate any tips on what you see or think

Don't be shy, believe me it make me think and does influence the build tremendously. It helps me not having to pay all the school fees!
Those engine mounts are inspired from what I was shown on this forum already. I surf a lot and find ideas and facts all over the show on the forum mostly but also elsewhere.

Quick question, how do you know if the incline the motor is sitting on is correct or not?

I know it should be at an angle, but how do you know what will work and what not?

I am a little more than familiar with that drive shaft vid

got a lifted land cruiser (X2) that used to Grrrrr because of incorrect prop shaft angles.

To start with the SFA flanges on the prop are not parallel. Mr yota provided for a double cardan to sort that out for the front prop . As long as I stay within those original angles i will be ok.

I first mounted the gearbox before i did the engine. The pictures I posted on your and my thread shows that the box is tilted towards the rear or put in another way "the ass end is hanging lower" at an angle. That angle is identical to how it was mounted originally. After bolting down the t/box i dropped the engine untill the angle was perfec to as the t/ box would have been if it sat on the original position on the gearbox crossmember. Hope this makes sense

. That extension plate was welded flat onto the cross member so the angle cannot be anything but what it used to be.

And that being the reason I had to strip the manifolds off to get the motor to drop between the chassis rails.

I test fitted a set of thse rims but they didn't clear the calipers and fitting spacers behind the 10" rims would have made it wider than it is long.

Lugs you can get from Midas, use 35mm2 welding cable and any battery place can crimp them for you, likely for free

Scott, the whole suspension is a Camil Suspension. I bought the vehicle with them on already, the springs seem to be part of the deal but not sure as they could just have removed some blades from the original suspension.

I am however VERY impressed with what I see and feel from just the little bit that i drove it. (Less than 1000 meters)

Hope the details in the picture will still work?

Hmmmmm ..... might be too hard / rigid. You might well find that you get excessive motor vibration transferred into the chassis.

Regarding the engine mounts, I had the same thought when I started the build BUT I have some tricks to make those softer and if that fails then I will buy the genuine rubber bushes to go in there and if they are then too hard I will further manipulate them to make them softer. Those bushes are Land Cruiser 79 pick up rear spring shackle bushes.

There are two bushes in each mount, drilling holes in them lengthways will be the first step. Cutting them shorter is the second step. I am sure I will find a happy medium somewhere. Have seen this type of setup elsewhere also and it works.

Some of the Golfs and Polos had something similar as front engine mountings, they just a bit bigger, but think they will be softer. Think yours are way stronger.

I am busy marrying the Lexus harness to the Link harness and I will definitely need to redo the insulation.

Is it relatively easy to acquire?

Reinart, got the insulation from a friend who has a friend who works for a tracking company.

That stuff is good, really good!!!
I am also waiting for a supply to come from Wurth, R100 a roll. So far I used 4 rolls and that included the starter and alternator wires that are now incorporated in the harness. Still have to do the harness in the engine bay once the body is painted.

Reinart, tell me , did you get the plastic trim cover that goes over the top of the engine when you bought.
I wanted one but they were going to charge me R1500 for that piece of plastic that should be with the motor anyway!

Also, have you got your plan yet to do the viscous?

Plans are halted on the visco until my mounts are up and the engine in sitting in the bay, then I will know how much space I have to work with, and they way forwards.

Going to start off with a pusher 14" Flex-A-Lite fan, just to get the motor up and running. Then make a plan with the cooling. As the cooling is going to be costing quite a bit I don't want to commit if I'm not completely sure that is the setup I'm going to run.

Nope, did not get the plastic that goes over the engine, looks like they love to keep those back and charge you separate.

Also not a fan but have painted them aluminium in the past. The hi-heat paint in orange tin from Midas looks good and gives a nice clean look.

Thanks Reinhart, I have the wiring Diagrams but looking for more info on the motor. I figured while its on the stand I may as well replace the seal and gaskets, so it would be good to have a manual.

Just remember, its not a land rover. You do more harm than good scratching where there is no itch! All IMHO, but I do work with engines on a daily basis. Was busy replacing the cam belt on my motor today and after carfull investigation we have come to the conclusion that my 1uz vvti has probably not done more than 60 k km. They will do in the tegion of 300k km before you will need to start worrying about oil leaks!

Gha, I went shopping, en toe vat ek raak.

I want to run OEM type setup as far as possible. Part of this is running the oem pump for the 1UZ from inside the fuel tank.

So I went a hunting in the scrap yard and found the housing that houses the fuel pump for a corolla (4ZZ engine)
It looked to be the right depth! and it is excactly right

I know I have to increase the hole size in the tank but thats very doable.
Once opened I found the fuel pump inside to be the exact same dimensions as the one I bought that is OEM for the 1UZ engine. Plug and play !!!!

Now to cut the hole bigger and make the housing retainer, where's my Turner
