SO THE HUNT BEGINS

Post by Obelix and Dogmatix »

Morning All

As some of you know my beloved V6 was donated (against my will!!) to some one in either diepsloot or Soweto.

So now to the hunt for a new one starts in earnest!!

My first question is posed to the guys with the manual 4.0L V6's - what is the fuel consumption like of the manual?

As I see there is quite a lot of them available and I need to justify using a clutch again with a significant increase in fuel savings. Please guys let me also now what mods you did to your manuals (freeflow, chips, decatting etc).

Thanks, your speedy replies will hopefully get me back into a 4.0L V6 speedily

Mine gives me in town on average 6.3km/L and on the open road about 7.3km/L

My foot is a bit heavy. Just removed cats. No other mods.

Thanks James that seems to me that it might be worth it to go manual, what do the rest of you say?

Ek kry 6km/l in die dorp en 7,2km/l op langpad. Hou van die manuel volgens my kan jy meer uit die engine haal, hulle word ook al hoe skaarser. As jy n goeie een kry vat hom.

I have the Manual Tuna, stock standard, so might differ a bit from Hilux with what fuel is concerned. I get about 7km/l and the wife gets a bit more.

Me, personally, I would forfeit 0.5 to 1km/l and get the Auto..... It is just much more of a pleasure to drive than the manual. ;-)

Quentin, once you have driven an Auto, you will never want to revert to the Dark Ages and go manual again.

I just recently purchased a Manual 4.0 v6 4x4 2005...Also searched for while looking for a manual and settled on 2005 cause all later models were auto. 171kms on clock, raised Iron Man suspension, MT tyres rather warn, Snorkel, unichip , freeflow decatted. ARB bumper, longrange tank- so it has some extra weight on.
I get 8.2km/l conservative driving ,relatively. But i havent had it that long so time will tell once i get a solid average but this is what Its getting now.

Had a look this weekend at a stunning 4.0l v6 alucab canopy OME Suspension long fuel tank front lockers arb on board compressor dual battery system front runner safe's and roof rack high lift jack the list goes on and some clown in Cape Town phoned first :banned: :banned: :banned: :banned: :banned: :banned: and got first option on it.

Suffice it to say the person (trying very hard not to call him names) bought it on a friends word.

So I am still in the market!!!!!!!!!!!!

You and me both.
Looking for a manual. The easy of traffic driving which I do a lot of is just great.
It does look like they are getting really scarce though.
Hope that you find one.

Congrats. ENJOY it !!

recently had to endure peak traffic - 5 hours peak traffic in ONE day. Next day had another 3 hours peak traffic ..... I enjoy my manual, but if I had to drive that type of traffic on a regular basis I would most definately get an auto !!!! GOOD to live 4 km from work :) :)

If 1km/l (max) difference is worth it to, go manual. Me, personally, I would forfeit the 1km/l and go auto. No mistake, I like my manual V6 and am not going to throw a lot of money away to get the auto but I I could do it over again, I would go auto from the start. ;-)
