Problems with insurers...
Perhaps someone can give me some advise on what to do?
In mid January my wife showed me that the alarm system is "off", now we did have lightning storms every other day then so I just assumed that was the problem, I called my security company to come have a look. The technician said lightning damaged it and I need a new controller, from there they will be able to test what else was damaged. So they sent out the sales rep that did a quote.
To be honest I think they smoke something, R19550 was their quote.
So I called the insurance and logged a claim, they sent out someone who at first said the same thing "lightning".
A couple of days passed without hearing from them, so I called them. Just to be told the claim is rejected!
The reason? According to the assessors report - "the client tampered with the unit that resulted in the system failure"
What a load of Bull....t!!!!
what am I to do? I called my legal adviser, they want me to get the report from the assessor and the letter stating that the claim is rejected.
But how can they do this? How do I prove I did not tamper with it, and how do they prove I did (according to them)?
I pay for years, and then the first time I want to claim they do this!

Wayne... klink vir my soos Outsurance.

Nee, dis Standard Bank.
Beste van als, ekt so bitjie gekyk.

Re: Problems with insurers...
Hul assesor dink jy's dom. Wys hom jy is nie.

My home bond was through Standard Bank, as was the Insurance. After the second incident with them (over a geyser), I invited them to take a flying leap and swung over to M&F. No problems whatsoever and never a claim refused. SB cannot force you to take insurance through them, do yourself a huge favour and dump them.WayneSchalk wrote: Nee, dis Standard Bank. Stef, you sure of this? M&F are huge, Hollard is small in comparison...
Our business insurance was also through Santam at one stage, we cancelled that as well after yet another incident. A Radio Mast was blown over in a very fierce storm we had and the assessor claimed because there were signs of rust *inside* the tower legs, we were therefore negligent. He could not tell me how to paint the inside of a 30M self-supporting tower though. The day we swung the business account to M&F we had another lightning storm, blowing up a Radio Systems Analyser. M&F paid up without a blink.

If Mr Buys moved it from M&F to Hollard there will be hell to pay...
That's how the lady explained it to me ..still M&F but Hollard took over the management of the claims but I could double check

i have never had problems with M&F, i find them very efficient,
as for Standard bank home owners Insurers, they are a bunch of incompetent, my case with them for a burst pipe ended up on twitter & Ombudsman had to intervene........

Re: Problems with insurers...
Stef, I spoke to my Broker today and she stated they have no knowledge of Hollard managing M&F's affairs. She actually laughed at this and said M&F is about 1000 - no, 2000 times larger than Hollard, so why would they do that?
Must say I would change to Tuff Stuff in a flash if that ever happened, but at this stage there is no justification for me to change from M&F. They even recover vehicles from across the border now, if need be.

Re: Problems with insurers...
Guys, it boils down to reading and UNDERSTANDING your contract.
Mate of mine parked his Hummer to close to the high tide mark in Namibia, Hummer went swimming, Outsurance sent flatbed, colected Hummer, brought to SA, assessed it, wrote it off, and paid him out.
Because he understood what he paid for.

You might want to check this with your broker, it seems you have been switched over to Hollard without your consent - not good. I received my new M&F policy a week or two ago, still M&F.
