Vigo ABS check?
Morning fellow members,
Yesterday (and this morning again), I had a big safety shock. With all the rain we have had over the past days the raods are slippery as hell around Gauteng, now I am used to the rear end sliding all over the place in the wet. But yesterday I had to break hard and the frons wheels actually locked up! So much so that I immediatley took the vehicle to SupaQuick for a break check - all fine with the brakes. On the way I tested it again and it locked up again, and this morning again.
The vehicle is supposed to have ABS and not lock up? I have BF Goodrich AT on there with about 50k km on them, how can I check if the ABS is working? Do I wait for things to dry up and test hard braking again or do I invest on other tyres?
Please help, it is a serious safety concern for me, especially in the current weather we are having.

Dewald the BFG ATs are notoriously slippery on wet roads. Did the ABS not kick in when you started skidding? With ABS it will only kick in as soon as the wheels have locked. It will not stop them from locking initially. I had them on my D4D and adapted my driving style to them. They are going to last you a long time so you might as well get used to them.

The key word here is slippery. Is the tar slippery enough to allow wheels to 'slide / skid' to deal with transmission wind up?? In my view if the roads are streaming with water, sure, but if it is just normally wet, I think tar is still a fairly grippy surface, unless you are using bfg's

Re: Vigo ABS check?
Eish, I have a 2005 which does not have ABS.
A problem even in the dry with that much power available.
Considering that I also run BFG's I will have to be extra careful in the rain

I also run BF A/T on my bakkie.
Lucky I only have a 2.4D
Not enough power to get into trouble in the wet
