Boetamac wanna go Lexus
Goodevening Gents
I've been threatening to go 7m in my 1996 Hilux 2.8d Dc 2X4. I just tuned a 1UZ in a Mercedes sprinter , and it was awesome!
I am contemplating the 1uz in my hilux.
Question 1:Will it fit in a 4x2?

Re: Boetamac wanna go Lexus
The short answer is YES.
With a 4x2 you dont have to worry about the transfer case. 4x2 and 4x4 engine bay is the same size. Browse/search the forum, there are a few 1uz builds that was done on 4x4s.

Re: Boetamac wanna go Lexus
I have read plenty of threads on the 4x4's, but they had bodylifts and the sorts. my 4x2 dont have those luxuries.
so do i attempt this,or let it be???
The reasoning to go auto is i do not wanna go source flywheel, bellhousing, clutch and the likes.....

Re: Boetamac wanna go Lexus
The autobox is the easier conversion - as you say, it's already married to the box, no need to source bell / clutch etc. It'll fit just fine without a body lift, it's not a motor with high peripherals. Another nice thing is that you can leave your suspension standard, the motor weighs a lot less than your diesel, although the autobox may be a bit heavier than your current box but you still won't be adding weight - all in all it should in fact be a little lighter.

Re: Boetamac wanna go Lexus
without a body lift you will have to do some surgery to the transmission tunnel to get the gearbox seated high enough. not a difficult job, but more labour intensive than a bodylift.
id say go for it!!

Dagse, julle.

Re: Boetamac wanna go Lexus
I have dropped both the dual vvti motor and the earlier dingle vvti 1UZ-FE motors into my Hilux and can say the dual Vvti motor is absolutely the better option, if you get the stock harness and ecu. Without the stock ecu the management of the motor is not easy to get right.
The other issue to remover is that Hilux leaf sprung rears are particularly soft and axel wrap is likely to get be a problem. We have decided to build a custom ladder bar to solve this issue... ( fitting a ladder bar generally requires a body lift)

I have completed fitting the 1uz vvti in my 1996 Hilux 2,8dc 4x2. It was a five squeeze, but its in and running awesomely.
I am still at a loss with regards to a speedometer, but it is a very very nice experience......

Re: Boetamac wanna go Lexus
Geluk.
