Legend - Side steps or Rock Sliders

Post by Neildbn »

Hi All

I can get a set of "side steps / running boards " for a Hilux Legend for R 2 500 from the local scrap yard.

1. Is this the going price
2. Would they be strong enough to use as rock sliders

Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Hi Neil. Are they the aluminium jobs or are they steel pipe? Even the Legend stainless pipe is not really strong enough and will be dented easily because of the thin wall tubing they used to make it out of.

The aluminium ones tent to look like paperclips after a really short while...

they steel,

was thinking of running a stronger strip of angle behind to take most of the bangs and weight so the pipe is purely cosmetic
Thanks in advance

the tube steps are still not strong enough to be sliders, the metal used is very thin and they mount to the std brackets under the car, which are not very thick at all.

I would say save your cash and get ONCA sliders for about R5500 :D

Or speak to Ali3n on the forum for a custom set I'm sure it will only be slightly more than the scrap yard ones.

Was also going to mention the Alien. And he can deliver to your doorstep, with his own spaceship. And it won't cost you an arm and a leg either, perhaps just a quick scientific probe into various bodily orifices...

Did I just say that out loud?...

Agree with that - Wave - Give Ali3n a shout - His Ali3n Rox are really well and proper made and does not cost an arm or a leg.

I have seen them in action on a Cruiser in very rocky terrain, the driver trying his utmost best to bend or break them. Ended up with a lot smaller pieces of rocks and still awesome looking rocksliders!

Awe gee thanks guys :blushing:

As has been mentioned no matter how much reinforcing you do to the standard side steps it will still not be good enough due to the way they are mounted. They are mounted to the body in most cases with flimsy little brackets which defies the point. Decent brackets are needed to ensure protection to your vehicle.

Besides, R2500 is a lot of money for a second hand set which most people I know just would just give away for a case of beer or so.
