Good deal?
Hi
I saw that Midas have a special running currently, a Matweld DC inverter welder for R1300. Is is a good brand? Is it a good deal? I need to replace my ancient arc welder and thought this might be the sign I've been waiting for...

Re: Good deal?
As good as any home welder and the inverter even made it possible for me to weld half decently. that is about the going rate for these welders, but also depends on the amp range

Re: Good deal?
Just off topic quickly.
I see in the catalog that they are selling 4ton towstraps for R 52-00.
Is that a good price or must I rather go to 4x4Direct to by a towstrap for Sunday?

Re: Good deal?
It is a go or price
agree that it is about the going rate
for an extra 250-300 buck you could get a 200A
better to have it and never need it then need it and not have it
self have a thermodine or thermomax can't remember those two are the same thing different labels
paid R2680 in 2008 and have seen them for 1600

Re: Good deal?
The inverter price may not be too bad, but personally I wouldn't buy it. I would rather put an extra couple of hundred with it and get the 200amp. There's going to be many instances that will make you regret buying a 145amp where you will want to weld some thicker material, .... unless you push it to it's limit and ignore the duty cycle, in which case you'll burn it out quickly which again will = regret. With the 200amp you can weld all day on a 100A setting without worrying about stuff like that.
Matweld is a fairly decent make (I also have one). Keep a look out for specials at places like Game / Builder's Express etc. They come up every now and again at prices in the region of R1600.
Your decision.

Re: Good deal?
So I asked at Midas Stellenbosch and they had no stock but could order one for me. Unfortunately the entire country is out of stock so they are getting me the 200 Amp one for the same price, R1300. WIN!
