Re: Breakfast run at Atlantis mid October
Thanks Niel, really struggled to post anything on Friday.....Gremlins in the system :x
We usually go to Atlantis early Sunday mornings when it is nice and quiet.
How does Sunday 21 October sound?

Re: Breakfast run at Atlantis mid October
Yes, that sounds good. The last time we paid R100 per vehicle and got the permits in Atlantis at the municipality, but I know one can get them in town as well. We could also do the trip on a Saturday and then get the permits on our way there?

Re: Breakfast run at Atlantis mid October
Houston we've got a problem :?
I received a mail today about a Toyota sponsored fun day at Atlantis, Saturday 20 October 2007. Apparently this is an annual event and it sounds like loads of fun.
Are we going to join the guys on the Saturday or should we rather move the date as they will most probably not allow us to drive there on the Sunday - Apparently they use the Sunday to pack up the tents, banners, ect.
I'm going to enter, but will still join you guys if you prefer to go a different weekend.
I’ve attached last year’s poster and other info I received, let me know.

Why so quiet Cape Town - Who’s joining us on the 28th
Atlantis Dunes is really a great place to hone your sand driving skills and all the dunes and obstacles are optional…… :D Just driving around and exploring is loads of fun and it is by far the cheapest trail that I have ever done – R100 per vehicle and you can play all day.
Maybe more pics will help…… :?

I will organise a 3/4 week trip (Nam/Bots) and then pretend that I am the expedition leader Less chances of getting lost.

Re: Breakfast run at Atlantis mid October 28/10/07
It was a very nice get-together that started at Mc Donald’s in Bellville from where we proceeded to Atlantis dunes. After the formalities it was time for the dunes with Suidwes leading the rest op “the pack".
“The pack" consisted of Suidwes (Jaco - 2.4 Toyota DC), George (2.2 Toyota Surf), Godfather (Rob - Toyota 2.7 SRX), Charl (old Land Rover with a 4.1 Chevey motor), Bernard (Isuzu 3l, DC, black) and Johan (Isuzu 3l, DC, metallic green).
The drive started of with a bit of sand driving on even terrain and then progressed to a few smaller dunes. Since it was my first time at the dunes I was amazed at the dune formations and where the other 4x4 went before us. That thought quickly disappeared as the guys started mastering the steep inclines on the dunes. This proved to be great fun and a few ramps (sorry no pictures) later we moved on to an even steeper and longer dune. Here we watched the Terrecan group. We then moved on a section that took me a couple of attempts to get over. We stopped for refreshments and then proceeded to what I will call "the hole".
Here we saw a number of things that impressed me i.e. female driving skills (anties in a white Isuzu KB 300) and the power of the same vehicle. By this time Rob has changed from gentle and reserved to an obstacle maniac and there was no stop in him for the rest of the morning followed by Charl in the Land Rover. Jaco had to wait patiently as a Cruiser and Colt and a few others (including quads) joined in the fun. Bernard also had a good go at "the hole" and was the first in.
The Cruiser 4.5 (80 series) just drove thru "the hole" as to say "where is the obstacle" The Colt V6 DC spinned a bit but also maid it look easy. Once again Rob was the die hard and went through a thick sand section after a few attempts. From there we proceeded to a few smaller dunes and we started heading for the gate.
Then we moved along to "the ramp" and at this section it took the willing drivers a couple of attempts to master the obstacle (Steep incline with a sharp turn to the right with a lot of thick sand just before the top). Some did not succeed but I am sure they will do so next time.
I would like to thank Jaco for ensuring us a save drive in the dunes.
Post your pictures. I only have a few photos but more movie clips and will publish it later.
Thanks for a lekker morning

Re: Breakfast run at Atlantis mid October 28/10/07

Dit was lekkkkkkkkkker or how do you say 'bevange'
Guys that was an amazing outing on Sunday! I had a great fun thank to some expert advice from everybody.
I must say i was a bit nervous to start but Jaco made it very easy to get into things with a calming effect.
Things started off with a bang when some guys 'won’t mention names' decided let see how can launch their machine the highest. Neil sorry but you took second place by 5mm.
After that it was smooth going until this place they call the 'hole' and after about 40mins of watching i think i saw enough. I will not forget the screaming as the girls made the hole look like a sand pit.
Well what can i say i think i found my magic gear in the hole ;)
For the rest it was great had a bit of a stiff neck the next morning but i think my Hilux new that was coming.
I would like to thank Neil for the great idea and organize it. Jaco for being the great guide although i think he have got to thank his secrete GPS.
To the rest thanks
Regards

It felt like we were air born for a hell of a long time. Who piped us to the line? I was to far back taking clips to actually see the other ramps properly. We will do it again soon ….
