Is this more or less halfway?
My trusty Hilux has hit a landmark!
I think, based on the reliability and hassle free use I have experienced, this should be less than halfway
1999 2.7 SRX 4x4 DC
Still the original engine, that I chipped about 18 months ago, because it was running lean (SAC). Only repairs have been replacement of ball joints and tie rod ends plus a recon of the diff.
After a serious disagreement with a BMW X3, replaced the bonnet and nose with the bullnose spec panels, and a new ARB. Other than that it is as I bought it in 2005!

It is a most reliable vehicle, and over the last 7 years it has averaged about 7.3 km/l.

Re: Is this more or less halfway?
Daai bakkie gebruik nog nie olie nie.
Halfpad dink ek is n belediging.
Oor so n 140K sal ek ook daar wees.

Re: Is this more or less halfway?
Stem heeltemal saam.

Re: Is this more or less halfway?
More or less .... depends a lot on how it's been treated over the years. It's a tough motor and could well give you 1 mil km's.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Halfway i would agree, give it another 500 000km it should start to sound like a new Jeep, give it a little attention.

Wow, you really have gone the distance in that car. The highest i had ever seen was 219k km. And you have completely doubled it!! Would love to see a list of the places you have visited. Must be a view pages long;). How is the cars performance though? Usually most cars are traded in and destroyed after 200k km's because they just become completely unusable. I would expect your car to be falling to pieces, or has it, and you've just been repairing it? Let me know thanx

Re: Is this more or less halfway?
Hi Ryan,
The list is not nearly as long as I would like it to be , but I have quite a bucket list. Been up and down Sani Pass, a trip to malilangwe in Gonarezhou (Zimbabwe) and did a few mild excursions off road mostly near Barberton and in the Kruger. Quite a bit of dirt in between though.
Apart from accident damage (front fenders and bonnet), only repairs I have done mechanically has been replacing ball joints, tie-rod ends, idler arm, propshaft and rear diff. In addition I had a SAC chip installed to correct the fuel mixture (was running lean).
I have a ARB bullbar on which is the only after market accessory added. The performance is still good, it doesn't really use oil, and I get an average of 7.4 km/l driving about 110 km/h.
Want to do the full SAC conversion in the near future, as well as a suspension upgrade. Really happy with the vehicle. I don't need the extreme articulation that the SFA offres, and the comfort gained from the IFS really suits my purposes.
Cheers Bud
