YELLOW LED lightstrips

Post by ChrisF »

So we get the two types of white LED Light strips. BOTH still attract insects in the camp ....

I have been told that YELLOW light dont attract insects. Once saw a camper with yellow LED's - and no insects .... but that was AT the coast and I dont recall any other insects .....

Who can CONFIRM if this is fact or fiction ?

and where can one buy YELLOW LED strips ???

Jy kry verseker baie minder insekte by jou maar dit is nie 'n 100% fix nie... ek sal reken so 90% minder

Apparently green works even better but green does not make as much light as yellow.
We've been selling it for more than 2 years now.

I have 1x orange Osram LED strip in the canopy... only really used it on 2 occasions, one of which was in the rain, so can't say for sure that it is 100% insect proof. The light it provided was still good though.

With the red lights some people might think that you are open for some kind of business

Most LED's come out with a yellow strip of cellophane in the packaging. I have a double row of about six LED's on a piece of aluminium flat bar with a hook bent on the one end, with two stoppers on the one side over which I can then wind about 10 meters of flex cable. I use this as an extension lead for light near the braai fire or light around the camp. It also can be hooked over a tree branch or onto the support of the awning. This definitely helps against attracting swarms of insects.
Yellow cellophane can probably be bought at any stationary store like CNA. A piece of this can then just be wrapped around the light & taped fast with sticky tape :surrender:

DANKIE Pieter :)

Donderdag betaal, Vrydag die LED's gekry by my poskantoor.

FEEDBACK TIME -

the yellow LED's WORK !!!!!!!! :) :)

switch on any traditional white light and you have insects of all kinds in seconds. But you can use the yellow LED's for hours with only 2 or 3 insects.

Only downside - the yellow gives a LOT less light. So if you plan to do this allow for at least 50% more strip length.

Surely one of the best changes we have made to Elders ! :) :)

Thanks Pieter
