WHAT Aftermarket Engine Management System??

Post by MOFASA »

Hi Hiluxers

I am doing some research on Aftermarket Management Systems...
So far all of all the ones i have seen on the net the Dictator sounds bout the best....
I am looking for a complete stand alone system as the motor I plan to try get will not have the electronics with it....

To the guys that are running stand alone systems, which ones are they?
How do they perform in your oppinion?
What do you think is best and please state your reasons?

ANY info on this will help.....

Did you install it yourself??
I have looked at the tuning of that and it seems like it could be quite complex....

Running also Dictator since 2008 and no issues with it!!!

Tuning is done on an rolling Dyno. Installation is not that difficult but that is the crucial part of it as it will determine how reliable the system is going to be...

I'm also running Dictator on my Corsa. For your application it will be perfect. Just hold thumbs that it never needs to go back for repairs, as you'll then have to be in close proximity to Chris Dicks who has the manners and personality of a mountain goat (and I'm being gracious here)

For what it's worth though - very few (as in almost zero) Dictator units ever give trouble, and every tuner in town can tune them

When I rebuilt my turbo Corsa I chucked the Dictator and fitted the GoTech Pro. Much more intricate to tune, but if you have a tuner that is patient and knows his stuff you can really have it superbly fine tuned. Real pain in the rear to get to there though...

Get the Dictator - you won't be disappointed
Nothing is impossible - it just costs more

It's about the same as the Dictator. Give the guys a call at GoTech directly if you're looking in that direction. The ycan also fit and tune right there at their facility at Rand Airport

That price of from JMS is not bad. I've had JMS install a unit on 2 cars before - the one was done beautifully, but you could see the other one was done in a bit of a rush. So just keep an eye on that. Steven is an excellent tuner though  . Tuned my little red Corsa perfectly, because he first enquired what was done to the motor and what I expected from it. Few tuners do that...

You can also check with RBTS in Pomona. Ross's work is excellent

Dicktator is the most reliable and they like Toyota engines.

if you like to tune everyday, the Spitronics is for you, much more stuff to play with.

If you like to push, GoTech is the one.

Like Allan, I've personally worked on conversions with all 3 the major locally made EMU's, here's my opinion:

For a normally aspirated 4 or 6 cylinder, the Dicktator STD is great.

For turbo charged engines GoTech allows for very fine tuning, and is often preferred.

For a Lexus V8, the Spitronics Titan is the way to go. The Titan box was produced with the Lexus engine in mind.

So it sounds like the Dictator is the way to go with a normally aspirated TOYOTA motor....

Thanks guys the info is gr8

Dicktator for its pure simplicity and reliability
Spitronics has more features inc lambda control, overheating protection

We get good results from both. I think the only thing to consider between the two is the tuner and the service backup you get,,,,,

Spitronics are by far the most configurable of the "lower cost" management solutions out there.
Dictator works, but is relatively dumb when it comes to detailed fueling and tends to deliver worse fuel consumption.

I agree with Nick, Spitronics is good, I have recentlybeen introduced by Perfect Power, also great system, I am having it fitted to my Rally car. My technician said it is better than Spitronix!
