Berakah - 9 December 2012 (Invitation)

Post by Ali3n »

I have received an invite for a Fun Day at Beraka in Parys for next weekend the 9th of December.
Fun 4x4 day at the beautiful Berakah trail.
Berakah is located in the Vredefort dome, said to be the World's largest meteorite crater.
Berakah is about 140 km's from the Monty Casino, near Parys in the Freestate.
R250 for a vehicle on the trail, payable to Berakah.

S26 49.372 E27 22.040 WGS 84

Sunday we start at 9h00, and we will have a bring and braai in the mountain for lunch.
The trail is 13km long, and takes about 6 hours (including the lunch break)

We will be leaving Saturday 08 December, and will be camping at Berakah.
There are decent ablution and camping facilities available as well as a few chalets.

If you would like to book a chalet or camp, please contact Berakah directly: http://www.berakah.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For any further information do not hesitate to contact Jo on 079 4899 778 or jo@geminitours.co.za
Please keep in mind that you do not need to camp. You are more than welcome to join on the Sunday for the trail.

Those who would want to attend, please feel free. We did Berakah a while ago and it was awesome. Will possibly miss this one but will see. Who knows.

So I am taking my truck to have it checked as there is a slight problem with over fueling and lack of power but hopefulley it will be sorted out tonight quickly so I will be doing Berakah on Sunday. First time ever since owning the Surf that I will get to test it off-road. :yahoo: Cleaner will be joining me and possibly Jeepie. Who else want's to come? Remember, this is not an official club event but will most definately be fun.

Mmmm sounds like a challenge brewing here. But lets be fair, it will actualy be 2 Lexus v8's up against a Vigo and a Jeep. We will have to make turns towing the 2 of them.

Jokes aside. It will be great if you could join us.

Thanks for the invite Ali3n!

What an awesome day it was! Had so much fun on the trail and a great bunch of people as well!

I did not think it possible, but there are actually people outside of our club that is also awesome!!

We had the pleasure of driving in the company of some of the Fundi guys we Marshaled to earlier this year and it was such a humbling learning experience! These guys really know their stuff!

Awesome Trail, Awesome Company, all and all a great day out!

For those that are wondering - That surf of Ali3n is a monster!! Minor issues that he need to sort out, but overall, a Monster! Almost as good looking as mine ;-) Though definitely sounding better than mine!!

Berakah is lekker, maar omdat dit in 'n "world heritage site" is, is die ernstiger hindernisse sement gegooi. Dit beskerm alles mooi, maar dit haal baie van die lekker speel uit.

Moegatle is beter in daai opsig. Dalk moet ons daar 'n draai gaan maak.....(skimp skimp)

Hi Guys,

Thanks to everybody who joined us. It was a great day, and nice to meet some of the members of the Hilux 4x4 club. I am in the process of registering as a commercial member on this site, and then I can advertise more outings and the DCC training.

I will add some pictures later today.

If you want, I will contact Moegatle and check if we can bring a group through for Monday.

Thanks again for the support.

Jo

Ps. I wouldn't mind being under the log bridge if I knew the person driving over!

Hi Shaun

I am the person driving over Sakkie's truck in that picture. It was done for the purpose of the photo, intentionally and with consent. The biggest complaint after the picture was taken was the dirt that I dropped onto his truck.

With regards to your comment above - There will always be a know-it-all and know-better person in any club and they will always have kittens (I was not at the Club Event referred to above and this comment is a generalization of circumstance and not aimed at anybody specific, nor the above mentioned feline parent, as I do not even know who the unfortunate wretch might be(that said, anyone is welcome to wear the shoe should it fit)). Be it on purpose or with malicious intent, it is their agenda and theirs alone. I to not entertain those loosers and reserve my comments to those that can deal with adult discussions. ;-) It was actually a recent topic of discussion between friends and I, when I am out with the club, and for reasons of being a club, I would behave much more cautiously and reserved, as it is what the club want and I respect that. I would not have driven over Sakkie's vehicle if this was a Club Event, as that would have raised a question about the Club's integrity with regards to safety. As this was not a Club Event, though I still represent the Club in all discussions and actions, had an accident occur, it would be in my personal capacity and not with the Club. I thus formally would like to distance the Hilux 4x4 Club from any comment or repercussion to the picture above and they are absolved from any liability of any form stemming from this picture! :wth:

That being said and done - Yes you are correct, there is a possibility of Risk involved, but then again, every second out on a trail, there is a possibility of Risk involved. I am also sure the same kitten bearer would have a whole kindle if someone was to enter a decent to close to him, or if he is still on the decent, though on occasion this happens in order to get a better view of what the person in front of you is doing and in order for you to get an idea of what to expect going down the same decent. Again - Out with the Club, you would typically have spotters guiding you down a steep decent, but when driving in convey or covering a distance, this is not always the case.

I would like to end my retort (tongue in the cheek and not in any kitten bearing way) in anecdote - Calculated Risk is much more capable than any make, model or brand of vehicle we drive - An idiot behind the steering wheel of a Toyota or a Jeep is still an Idiot. Use of the brain and experience cannot be replaced by bearing an intrigue of kittens. Besides breastfeeding those must a female dog!

I stopped under the bridge specifically FOR the photo, and never for one second felt my vehicle at risk. All the vehicles were directed over the log bridge, by capable people.

I'm not going to go into a discussion here that will end up in me saying that if that (the way we did it) makes anybody feel unsafe, then he should not come play with us when we get serious......

The end of my participation in this part of the topic.
