NAMIB, SADDLE HILL 15-18 Maart 2013

I'm planning to do the above trip next year.

There is still place for a Hilux or two.

'n Vier dag wegbreek oor 'n naweek na Saddle Hill, noord van Luderitz. Vir die manne ook 'n dag van speel in die duine, en 'n kamer vir mamma om in te slaap. Dus geen kampgoed. Slegs jou klere, slaapgoed en ietsie ligs te drinke.

Saans kuier ons om 'n groot vuurmaakplek in die ou werkswinkel, so die woestynwind en seemis gaan jou nie pla nie.

Laat weet asb ssm of jy lus het om saam te ry.

Koste: R4350 per persoon wat ondergenoemde insluit.

Afstand vanaf Kaapstad oor Rosh Pina - 1117km

Elkeen betaal sy eie akkommodasie in Luderitz, voor en na die trip

ITINERARY

Day 1

Leave Lüderitz after breakfast
Travel through spectacular desert scenery for approx. 70km
Travel through spectacular dune scenery for approx. 95km
Arrive at Base Camp
Remainder of day relax at the camp, the beach or have fun in the dunes


Day 2 & Day 3 (applicable to the 4-day Tour Option)

(On a 4 day tour the on Day 2 day our route leads to Saddle Hill North and on Day 3 to Saddle Hill South)

1. Breakfast

1. Travel on the beach at low tide to Saddle Hill South and enjoy the scenery along the way

Visit a mining camp engulfed by shifting sand dunes

Sightseeing at old earthmoving equipment left to the elements of Mother Nature.

Travel northwards to Spencer Bay through spectacular scenery.
3. At Spencer Bay’s beach, climb over hill top to view a magnificent shipwreck of the vessel “Otavi” stranded on the beach in its own tiny bay, guarded by seals. This wreck can only be reached by foot or by sea. This resulted in the wreck being virtually left untouched. The vessel ran aground in the forties whilst loading guano from Mercury Island.

Travel northwards to view the detonated vessel “United Trader”, a vessel that ran aground in the early seventies with 700 tons of explosives on board. The vessel, with load, was detonated in 1974 with pieces of metal being spread over an area of 5km radius. The explosion was even felt in the Lüderitz area.
Travel further north to view another shipwreck, the vessel “Tong Whang”.

Return to camp traveling past a small fountain where Oryz drink and graze.


Day 3 or Day 4 (applicable to the 4-day Tour Option)

Breakfast
Travel back to Lüderitz via the dunes.
Wildlife can be observed
Trip Distance : ± 450km

Departure : 1st Day 08h30/09h00 Return : 3rd / 4th Day ± 16h00

SHOES for mountain climbing





Please Note: We keep a limited fuel reserve at the camp for emergency situations only (N$ 12.00 p/litre)

The use of this fuel is at the vehicle owner’s risk.



Vehicle Specifications:

The 4 x 4 vehicle must be in a sound mechanical condition
Heavy dune area - high flotation tyres (“fat takkies”) in a good condition required
No vehicles without low range can be allowed
Preferably no Soft roaders e.g. ML Mercedes, BMW, Audi etc. (at owner’s risk & cost of recovery)

Kan nie glo dat hier geen reaksie is nie!!!!!! Ek het die roete al twee keer gedoen en dit is 'n ervaring wat jy NOOIT sal vergeet nie.

Dis reg George, jy's baie welkom. Hoe meer Hilux'e, hoe beter.
Laat weet ma so gou jy kan. Daar is nog 2 plekke beskikbaar.
Daar gaan ook 'n nuwe Dodge Ram 5.7 L (Super Charged) Saam. sal die outjie nogal graag in die duine wil sien speel.

Die Dodge kan dalk vir groot vermaak sorg. Die krag is indrukwekkend, MAAR die grootte van die voertuig kan 'n probleem wees.

Laasjaar was daar vir die 2e keer 'n Ford F250 (Diesel) dubbel kajuit saam op die Luderitz Walvis trip. Dit het verbasend goed gedoen. Ek dink die 37" bande het baie gehelp.
