Wheel Well Protection

Re: Wheel Well Protection
Hi Stephan
Used car dealerships usually spray the chassis and undercarriage black to give the vehicle that new look.
It's usually a low quality water based paint, easily removed with a pressure cleaner.
Don't stress about it,

Re: Wheel Well Protection
I would still give it another coat of some protection now that it's clean. Chassis black was very commonly used before but stone-chip would be a better option, especially in the wheel well where one does get stones thrown up. (I assume you no longer have the inner plastic protector).

Re: Wheel Well Protection
Paint it on! it goes on thicker, so more protection ..... and if course there's no over-spray to clean off.

Re: Wheel Well Protection
Andy,
Can it be applied straight unto the existing paint? My trokkie has a few patches where battery acid caused paint-damage (inside the engine bay etc)
Thank you

Re: Wheel Well Protection
Yes, but I would treat the area with a rust converter first if there is any exposed metal ... a light sanding first will get rid of any loose paint and surface rust.chopper wrote:Andy,

Talking about rust converter, any ideas/info on the best value for money brand name and supplier(s) - talking about large volumes :wth: (not for the Lux but for use on game fencing - to treat "trekpale" and Y-standards

Re: Wheel Well Protection
The "PolyCell" product ("Russist") isn't bad at all, but I prefer the "Durham" product (NS 1) if I can get it. They say that two coats should give enough protection to eliminate the use of a top coat, but I'm not so sure about that, I would rather give it a top coat of NS 4. I would only use these 'converter' products if there is already signs of rust, otherwise I would use Durham's NS 4 and give it two coats. It will also work out cheaper and you can choose between colours (black, white, red, grey).
