Engine continues to run after switching off ignition..?
to all you boffins out there, lately when I switch off my ignition, the engine continues to run for a few more revolutions then eventually dies, if I switch back on again and start and then switch off it shuts down immediately, can anyone let me know the cause and fix for this, is it ignition based or something to do with the starter motor ???

You need to change your plugs to a colder rated plug. Yours become to hot and pre ignites the fuel

Re: Engine continues to run after switching off ignition..?
I'm not sure if that could be the only cause but it most definitely is one of the causes of pre-ignition. There is another thread here somewhere on the forum regarding this. Will try and find it

Have you changed the timming?
Too advanced timming can also cause preignition.

Common Ford problem... called run-on... they been working on a fix since 1975! In 1985 they thought they had solved it, turned out the motor was siezed! Back to drawing board then...

Hi Stuart.
Ek weet my mazda V6 het n electronical idling jet gehad.
As joune een op het is ek heeltemal oortuig dat hy vashaak
En nie toemaak nie. Dit is n klein siliniod valve op die carb.

Re: Engine continues to run after switching off ignition..?
OR your motor is "DIESILING". main cause is over fueling..Mr_B wrote:Common Ford problem... called run-on... they been working on a fix since 1975! In 1985 they thought they had solved it, turned out the motor was siezed! Back to drawing board then...

or it could be the modulator (if you got electronic ignition)
if it just started to do it it wont be te timing.
P/S mine started a while ago now it just stoped cause iam driving it easier.
try to idel for a few seconds befor switching off so it can burn the unburned fuel then it wont DIESEL.

The motor wil rather have a pinging noise at low revsGeorgeJvR wrote:Stubs

when you put pedal to the metal due to the difference of altitude,
Rather than pre ignite (dieseling)

Re: Engine continues to run after switching off ignition..?
Hi Andrew, yes am running those plugs, now I have just come back from a 4 day trip to kruger, Skukuza, lower sabie, back via Graskop, gods window, potholes, pilgrims rest, marble hall and back Nylstroom etc and the motor didnt preignite once ?? however what I did notice the closer I got to the kruger the engine would stutter everynow and then as though it was crap in the carb etc but I see no indication on the rev counter which stays firm and relevant revs, then once back pass pilgrims rest the engine was fine, so dont know if thats a combination of altitude, crap in the fuel tanks, carb maybe needs a service etc....but otherwise I love the V6..I think once back in the cape I will take to Hoppy just to give it a retune and clean the weber as I do have a small flat spot in first pulling away but nothing hectic...

Re: Engine continues to run after switching off ignition..?
Stuart,
Please check the fuel cut off solenoid. (If you have a carb) Sometimes these things become faulty and they don't cut the fuel off when the ignition is switched off. But also the can cut the fuel whilst you are driving. I would simply buy a new one because they are pretty cheap. At least one potential problem would have been ruled out. In all likelyhood that is part of your problem.

Just because it says "4WD" doesn't make it an off-road vehicle.
